  1. Elvis Costello recorded a beautiful LP with The Brodsky Quartet called The Juliet Letters

    I Thought I’d Write To Juliet

    And I’ve posted this one before but it’s too good not to post again

    Tom Waits – Christmas Card From A Hooked In Minneapolis

  2. …I had a few other thoughts that I could have maybe argued fit…there’s a few tunes that reference letters (like the one that made the name stan a verb) & there’s a whole neil young album that’s nominally a letter home…but in the end I figured I’d go with polly jean?

  3. Some early West Coast doo-wop.  This song from The Medallions was cited by Frank Zappa as a big part of the inspiration for Ruben & the Jets.  You’ll want to hear the spoken part that begins at 0:39.  You can hear the seeds of the Zappa song, “Later That Night”.  People often make the mistake of thinking Ruben & the Jets was a parody of doo-wop, but in fact, Zappa said it was a homage.  At least two of the original Mothers of Invention had actually been in doo-wop groups.

  4. The Local Guy;

    A different kind of letter–by ANOTHER Local Guy😉;

    The Jovi that sorta sounds like a letter;

    And apparently there’s this old one, too (I never had this album, soooo I learned from the Googles😉);

  5. Oh shit, I’m double DUAN dipping again.  I should have resisted, but I feel that we just don’t hear enough Pat Boone around here.  You don’t have to thank me.

  6. MegMegMcGee, I got no tunes you see
    Just this ‘letter’ ugh-askin how it be
    Ya’ll post those tunes so musically
    All neatly boxed in a graphic key
    With labels for to play and see

    • Oh God, I’m an idiot, this is the song that leads off this post and I somehow skipped right by it! Sorry, Meg. As you’ll see I posted mine at 3 AM, not because I was partying up all night, but because I couldn’t sleep so decided to get up and check out deadsplinter.

      It’s a great song, though, everyone could stand to hear it twice.
