  2. White Stripes – Death Letter

    and Surf Punks – Letter from Hawaii

  3. Elvis Costello recorded a beautiful LP with The Brodsky Quartet called The Juliet Letters

    I Thought I’d Write To Juliet

    And I’ve posted this one before but it’s too good not to post again

    Tom Waits – Christmas Card From A Hooked In Minneapolis

    • I used to listen to the Juliet Letters all the time. Need to revisit it – thanks for the reminder.

      • I haven’t listened to it in a while myself.

  4. …I had a few other thoughts that I could have maybe argued fit…there’s a few tunes that reference letters (like the one that made the name stan a verb) & there’s a whole neil young album that’s nominally a letter home…but in the end I figured I’d go with polly jean?

  5. Some early West Coast doo-wop.  This song from The Medallions was cited by Frank Zappa as a big part of the inspiration for Ruben & the Jets.  You’ll want to hear the spoken part that begins at 0:39.  You can hear the seeds of the Zappa song, “Later That Night”.  People often make the mistake of thinking Ruben & the Jets was a parody of doo-wop, but in fact, Zappa said it was a homage.  At least two of the original Mothers of Invention had actually been in doo-wop groups.

    • Oh, this is so good. Thank you for sharing.

  6. The Local Guy;

    A different kind of letter–by ANOTHER Local Guy😉;

    The Jovi that sorta sounds like a letter;

    And apparently there’s this old one, too (I never had this album, soooo I learned from the Googles😉);

    • And I almost forgot the Ella;

    • …damn…I didn’t go with that brother ali tune because I was going to stick it at the end of the DOT tomorrow…so I guess that’s another drawing board I’m going back to

      …fair play, though…it’s a great tune

      • You can TOTALLY still put it on the end of the DOT–it’s a GREAT tune!😉😁💖
        (And if for some reason it just won’t work, there’s always Work Everyday, Uncle Sam Goddamn, Mourning in America has a SLAMMIN’ beat as a morning wake up,  AND there’s always one of the BEST Brother Ali songs EVER, to pick up a mood, in an *IDGAF* way….Forrest Whitaker🤗😉😁💖)

        • …I could have…but it seemed like I needed to have another think & in the end I went a different way

          …I try to ration myself where some artists/tunes are concerned…otherwise pretty much all the DOTs I do would end with him or sage francis or something & for whatever reason that seems somehow wrong?

            • And don’t forget K’naan’s stuff, too–it’s EXCELLENT–even Coke agreed😁!

      • And I forgot to say, Sorry I yoinked your tune!😖

        • …no need to apologize…it’s probably good for me to spend more time thinking about the tunes than dwelling on the stuff in the linked articles?

  7. Oh shit, I’m double DUAN dipping again.  I should have resisted, but I feel that we just don’t hear enough Pat Boone around here.  You don’t have to thank me.

  8. And some older country ones, too;

    • Oh God, I’m an idiot, this is the song that leads off this post and I somehow skipped right by it! Sorry, Meg. As you’ll see I posted mine at 3 AM, not because I was partying up all night, but because I couldn’t sleep so decided to get up and check out deadsplinter.

      It’s a great song, though, everyone could stand to hear it twice.
