Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Lifetime Party

Cecilio & Kapono

Cecilio & Kapono (locals just call them C & K) are Hawaii’s most popular and successful music duo.  They formed in 1973 & became a huge hit in the islands and eventually worldwide putting their first three albums out on Columbia records.  In fact, they were the first Hawaii group to ever get a national recording contract.  They went on to put out thirteen full length albums together and numerous solo recordings.  Combining contemporary Hawaiian, pop, and folk rock they continue to get regular airplay in Hawaii and constantly sell out “reunion concerts”.  If you went to any gathering or party in Hawaii in the ‘70s or ‘80s you were sure to hear their music.  My graduating class (as did most at that time) used their hit “Friends” as our class song.

a little more rocking tune…

One I always tend to use for sentimental slideshows…

And lastly, my favorite of their hits…

Cecilio has had limited success on his own and a few legal problems but Kapono is still a regular in the Hawaii music scene. If you are ever on Oahu try to catch him at his regular performances at Dukes in Waikiki.  He has also been touring with Keola Beamer.  Thank you for your continued support of Deadsplinter.

  1. ZZ Top – Party on the Patio

One of the best concerts I ever attended. Jeff Healy opened for them and blew the doors off the joint. ZZ Top had their work cut out for them, but they put on a hell of a show, playing a lot more of their old blues standards than I had expected.

    • I forgot how hilarious that album cover is.

    • I saw ZZ after the Cheap Sunglasses song came out, good show but that wasn’t my favorite time for them. They played a winery in our area last summer I think, heard it was a great show.

    • That’s awesome! I have not seen that album. Henry Kapono is so awesome, everyone loves the guy. It is amazing you can still go see someone as talented as him at a beachside bar every week. He did an online concert for the regulars at Dukes that were missing him. Only can find it on Facebook.
