Groundation is a roots reggae band from Northern California. They began on the campus of Sonoma State University where the lead singer Harrison Stafford taught a course on the History of Reggae Music. The name comes from the Rasta term “Grounation” which is an important Rastafarian holy day commemorating Haile Selassie’s first visit to Jamaica. With roots in jazz, the members are amazing musicians but the lyrics are what really got me. I’ve needed some inspiration to get through the never ending din of terrible news, tragedy, social injustice, and all the other global problems that seem to be shrugged off by our media. These guys really get it and though I know here, I am preaching to the choir but please give these guys a listen and spread their message. Like this song that asks what is the market price for a man’s soul?
This song features the most inspirational Reggae legends that I have ever seen & I previously covered in a DUAN, Israel Vibrations…
The rest of these are pretty self explanatory so I will just shut up and let you enjoy the music or just skip along to your contributions…
Thanks for indulging me and I hope somebody out there is inspired or moved by Groundation.
only listenened to two of the songs so far…but good stuff
i dont seem to be in a reggea headspace today…so ill go with demob happy

Steel Pulse – Rize
Awesome choice! As I’ve told before my buddy is friends with the lead guitarist of Steel Pulse, said he would get me backstage if I go to a Hawaii show. I’m missing them this trip but it will happen!
