Deadsplinter Up! All Night: New to Me

What's good?

I’m not very good at finding new music. I’ve always relied on good friends who would clue me into good stuff that I haven’t heard before. The best was a guy named Tom who had the best ears I’ve ever known. He could cut through the BS and consistently lay great tunes on me. He also wasn’t shy about letting me know that the new thing I found and said I liked was really crap, and then he’d patiently explain why. And you know what? He was always right. Which made it mean so much more that he encouraged my own musical efforts, because I knew he wouldn’t tell me something was good when it wasn’t.

Unfortunately, Tom is no longer with us. Like a lot of friends from my youthful cohort and social circle, he was gone way too soon. But his legacy lives on in my musical tastes. When I hear something new to me, I like to reflect for a moment on what Tom would have said about it. Today is Tom’s birthday, so I’m posting only music that I’ve heard for the first time in the past week.

Of course, this is also an open musical thread where you all post the things that are either new to you, or that you think I might not know about but should. In this way, I can crowdsource the refreshment of my playlists. You are all my Tom tonight.

Thank you for your kind participation, and for supporting Deadsplinter and DUAN.

    • And while Farscy’s was funny, that first video was really… interesting.

It’s pretty crazy how much talent can go into these things these days. The old days of MTV can’t hold a candle to these people.

  1. I’m not good with new music either. I’m kind of stuck at the year 2000, but I wanted to contribute so… here is some new Def Leppard.
