Deadsplinter Up! All Night: New Toys

I have acquired a vintage record player and a huge stack of records.

There’s so much DEVO I’m not sure what to do with myself.

As well as some NWA, which is totally me.

And I grabbed this one for the cover alone.

What’s the quintessential record for your collection? What else do I need for my newly acquired hobby?

Thanks for your continued support of Deadsplinter and DUAN!

  1. Hoo, boy.  You can really go down a serious money hole if you want with that new gear.  For sure, I would at the very least recommend a top notch pair of wired headphones.  The kind with a 1/4″ phone plug connection and a 10′ cord so you can sit back and relax.  The headphones won’t be cheap at all (at least in the $300-$400 range), but it’ll be cheaper than buying an amp to power your newly acquired high end speakers.

My #1 album is definitely Couldn’t Stand the Weather by Stevie Ray Vaughan, but I already posted the title track in the DOT.  So, I’ll go with another one of my favorites:  Kevin Gilbert’s Thud.  If you can find this one on Vinyl (it’s long out of print), I would definitely recommend it.

  2. That’s a tough one, I like so many different kinds of music. I’m not sure any particular one really says me. But one of my prized possessions is the Act Of Contrition EP by The Five.

    Angel of the Morning

    • Sorry, on re-reading, my post seems off-putting or discouraging.

I kinda envy the vinyl-havers. My brother got into it at the start of the pandemic and is enjoying the hell out of it. So enjoy this new thing, and congrats on the great start that you found!

  3. Wow, my older brother had that exact turntable back in the day!  Also, I haven’t thought about Dayglo Abortions in 30 years!  This one would definitely love to own on vinyl…

This album would also be amazing on vinyl…

  4. Ooh welcome to the vinyl record loving club! It’s very addictive.
Everyone else is going classic, I’m going to recommend something more modern. This album sounds AMAZING on vinyl and I play it a lot on lazy weekends

  5. Oh boy, major vinyl envy. And DEVO envy.
I’d recommend some classics for the collection here:
New Order, Power, Corruption, and Lies

Brian Eno, Here Come the Warm Jets

And a much-recommended recent addition for me, Gary Numan’s 40th anniversary reissues: https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/gary-numan-40th-anniversary-reissues/

And you could bring your turntable into the 2020s by amping up the sound portability via this Bluetooth speaker: https://www.marshallheadphones.com/us/en/1002481.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAyc2BBhAaEiwA44-wW0NASOd6-qdfxt1tpRWdiYDz17WRihfp65CD1Jz_rPWa2PjHRBPqsxoCff8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
