Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Now Is The Time For Love

Darrow Fletcher was a child prodigy from Chicago who scored his only hit in 1965 when he was just 14. He had a sweet, soulful voice and seemed destined for stardom. But, it never happened. He kept singing and recording well into his 20’s, but despite cutting some really cool singles, never caught on. I really like this funky number he recorded in 1971 for the tiny Genna label who seemed to have only ever released three 45’s in their existence. They put a of production into this song for what must have a shoestring operation. Darrow never made an album, but some of his singles were finally compiled in the past decade and it’s a pretty extraordinary body of work for someone who went almost completely unnoticed.

Thank you for your continued support of Deadsplinter!

  1. Good tune, music is a weird biz, sometimes talent isn’t enough.
Here’s another guy with only 1 bona fide hit. My friend had this LP when it came out and I can’t remember any of the other tracks.
    Andy Pratt – Avenging Annie

He’s released around 30 other albums but as far as I know never had another hit.
