Did anyone ever see the episode of the “Brady Bunch” where they sang the original of this son? You were supposed to go ask Alice, the live-in housekeeper. They were inspired to write and perform this after Jan went missing for three days. No one really noticed or cared but one afternoon Alice was humping bag after bag of garbage out back (no recycling then) and noticed Tiger the dog lying on something in a big pile of leaves. It was 12-year-old Jan, sleeping off another one of her acid trips. The only other person home at the time was Carol, Mrs. Brady, but she was so hopped up on Dexedrine she would have done more harm than help. Alice, who was a JV wrestling star at her women’s junior college (her major: home ec) lugged Jan’s dead weight into the garage and hosed her down. Marcia came home unexpectedly, screamed in delight at seeing this, and put pen to paper.
And that is the history of “White Rabbit.”
