I’ve often thought that part of Johnny’s popularity was due to the fact that he was such a deeply flawed individual, and that is something that we can all relate to in one way or another.
I also love the fact that when Johnny played his prison gigs, he always refused the security detail because he felt he was no better than the men he was performing for.
I could never get out of the greys in the old place, but I swore, as God is my witness, if I ever got the chance to participate in one of these, I would share the choicest doo-wop cuts.
