The nice thing about DUAN is the exposure to everyone’s musical tastes. I have expanded my music library over the last couple of years because of this place. But every so often there is something that just hits a nerve. This is one of them. Handsome Boy Modeling School.
Ellie purchased this album when it first came out. Needless to say I wasn’t a big fan. Oh well.
Flash forward 20 years and this joker got a hold of DUAN. And so the great #ART / #NOT-ART debate heated up. So over the last year and a half I have been bombarded with this.
And this
My rebuttal
This would go on back and forth with neither of us admitting the other had taste. Then it happened the other night. He sent me some clips I didn’t roll my eyes at.
And
I will never admit publicly that this is good but i do have to give it #KINDA-ART.
Palette cleanser
Thanks for coming around and show me your #ART.
*looks both ways*
…
fucking pussies!
One just for you @farscythe
lol i love iron reagan 😀 thank you
have a local
good stuff!
*added to playlist*
I find that Myo has good taste in #Art. He turned me on to Astronautalis…the singer has smart lyrics, rhymes, voice, and tunes.
Thanks for that one @myopicprophet
Also, complain whine, last week my phone started to autocorrect incorrectly…and between the time I hit post and the comment updates it will randomly change a word. Grrrrr.
@Elliecoo – This is how Skynet plans to destroy us, drive us all mad by autocorrect.
…if it helps I’m kind of relieved to hear you say that…because I swear that happens to me…but mostly it tends to make me doubt my sanity…& consider maybe looking at getting a new phone?
When myo was teaching me to create posts on here he posted this under my name. I was mortified. Thankfully he immediately removed it.
Air Supply – All Out Of Love
But he also introduced me to this so I forgave him.
Sage Francis – Crack Pipes
Well I must admit that it’s a lot easier when it is just you and I where I am right 100% of the time and you are not wrong 5% of the time but on DUAN? Where everyone will take your side? I feel out-numbered.
Oh well…y’all can:
Warsawpack is #art:
& no one would even know who Eminem was if it were not for Cage:
I’m sure you would….
On September 3, 2020, @myopicprophet included this song in a DUAN. I had never heard it before, and that’s all I have to say about that.
I try to offer songs so obscure no one has ever heard them before:
You’re welcome!
@Luigi Vuoto
Every time he sends me a new song to listen to my speakers cry.
That is because, unlike you, they listen to the lyrics:
This DUAN is in dire need of some Aesop Rock:
@myopicprophet
Sure we do. Just like we need this
Yeah I remember you sending that song to me other night. Like most of your songs they are, shall I say, not lyrically
Who needs them
Now this I like
…fly a rap flag, you say…well…let’s see now…seems like someone “woke up this morning &”
…& mostly in rap terms that tends to go a certain way…like back in the day
…but that can be…misleading…sometimes it pays to listen to the words
…at the end of the day though…if it ain’t for you, it ain’t for you…maybe you’d be better of with one of these?
@SplinterRIP
Oh God now there is two of them
…& there was me thinking sticking to american rap was doing you a favor?
*favour
This DUAN sucks.
even though
Oh that reminds me of Top Gun!
For the life of me I don’t know what the fuck’s going on here. I should probably stop drinking….
Hoodoo Gurus – What’s My Scene
@MemeWeaver
we don’t know what’s going on either. Love The Gurus by the way.
Narrator: “He never stopped drinking…”
I’m not sure whether we’re supposed to be sticking strictly to stuff Myo has introduced us to, but either way I don’t think I have much to add to that column.
Here’s something rather near and dear to my heart and my youth. I was hopping back and forth across the pond around the time The Streets broke, and I watched the American music press…not get it. Or turn them into a novelty act (Hey-O! English rap with a Cockney bent! — which again missed the point). I think people on either side of the pond could debate the relative merits or non-merits of Mike Skinner, et al, but no one can deny that he was a wry, clever observer of his time.
What I appreciated most about Original Pirate Material was how bluntly original it was in declaring that an American artform spoke universally to people in the UK and Europe (and beyond) who felt unrest…while also incorporating these intricate microhouse flourishes that were both simple and beautiful–very much of the time for the IDM era. I think people missed its subtle beauty because many tracks were so outright funny.
The Streets, “Weak Become Heroes”
And speaking of microhouse, I also loved these two albums. Again, it’s up for debate whether people hear art or just a collage of micro-samples that sounds like self-indulgent wankery.
Farben, “Suntouch Edit” from the album Textstar (FYI: this is Jan Jelinek recording under one of his many monikers)
Akufen, “Skidoos” from the album My Way
Also, on the question of #ART, I couldn’t resist including this.
🎵Hardly art. Hardly starving. Hardly art. Hardly garbage. 🎵
The Thermals, “No Culture Icons”
