Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Strike

No, it’s not labor day – but for us in the film industry, work has ground to a halt because of the writer’s strike. The last one in 2007 reshaped entertainment by inflicting us with reality tv. Let’s see what comes out of this one.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! If anyone needs a break from their usual posting duties, let me know – I can do some filling in to give people a break.

    • An internet friend of mine is one of the striking writers. He writes histories mostly now, but writing some Skinemax movies kept him fed and clothed during some tough times.

      • On most shows I’ve worked on recently – a lot of the writers get executive producer credits. I don’t know how that translates pay wise, but there are also a lot less episodes per “season” now. On the show I just did we had the pilot plus 12. When I did Vampire Diaries we did 22 and 23 eps per season – so I think most writers now only get 1-3 eps – which over 6 months isn’t really a lot of money.

        • YOU WORKED ON THE VAMPIRE DIARIES? And also James Cameron’s Titanic? Oh my God. You must come to New York during your hiatus. The Better Half and I would have so many questions. Even the dog (I hope you like dogs) would jump around once I said something like, “You know, I know Kathy Bates was the Unsinkable Molly Brown, and I’ve been to her house in Denver, but in reality…”

          • @MatthewCrawley – Haha! My sister lives in the East Village – the next time time I visit- I’ll let you know. And, I love dogs. I have three. One is 16 and elderly – in fact, I can’t really go anywhere until he passes on to the next plain of existence.
