Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Summer in the City

simmering neck-bones, sirens across the ceiling’s midnight

So, I’m writing this from Chicago. It turns out that Mrs Luigi will be teaching the second summer session, and this was our one chance to get a little summer vacation together. It’s a good time to be up here, too, since the Gospel Fest is happening Saturday and the Blues Fest is happening next Saturday and there’s all kinds of other stuff going on in this wonderful happening troubled city. Plus it’s warm but the nights are cool and the brutal humidity hasn’t hit yet.

It always takes me a day or two to get acclimated to this madhouse after the serenity of the farm, but now I’m pretty much in the swing of things. Yesterday I was stuck in traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway with the windows open and started a conversation with the guy in the car next to me about the fucking White Sox and their useless fucking owner which is a very Chicago thing to do. Then the Mrs and I went up to a terrific Serbian restaurant up on Lincoln Ave where they really take care of you and I filled up on ćevapčići and leskovac mućkalica. It’s sunny and in the 80s and man it’s nice over here. Everybody is in summer mode for sure.

On the way up from Virginia, we stopped for the night in Louisville, KY which is quite a nice town. I realized that I had forgotten my garment bag at home that had my shirts in it. All that was in my bag was a pair of jeans and t-shirts and underwear, so we found the part of town with the funky resale and consignment shops and I bought a nice new wardrobe for about $40 total. Most of it is actually better than anything I had packed at home, so I’m OK with all that.

So that’s really it from me. You play what you want. This is your DUAN. I’m gonna go get an Italian ice.
