This weekend is the end of astronomical Summer for those of us who inhabit the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a time of bittersweet reflection and preparation for what’s to come. For me, it’s thinking about my childhood. As a kid, the Summer was the season when I seemed to do most of my growing, but the Fall was when most of the good stuff happened to me. For example, I had my first kiss in Summer, but my first love in Fall.
This is also the time of year I take one of my quarterly trips up to Chicago, so by the time you’ll read this, I’ll be on the road somewhere across Ohio on my way North. Probably looking for a decent Mexican restaurant in Chillicothe.
I’ll be away next week so there will be someone much more capable than I handling your Wednesday DU!AN needs. When I return we will have passed the equinox and be watching the leaves change and to paraphrase Emily Dickenson, as imperceptibly as grief the Summer will have lapsed away.
Thank you all for being here.
