DeadSplinter Up! All Night:  Supper Club

Let’s go back in time and hear some songs from your favorite crooners tonight.

My grandmother loved Engelbert Humperdink – they were pretty much the only records at her house – so most of my childhood music consisted of Disney records, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac(from my mom) and good old Engelbert.

And, she loved Mel Torme – although she didn’t think he was as handsome as Engelbert.

Thanks for your support!

  1. Is it my imagination or is Lena Horne underappreciated these days?

Nonna loved Dean Martin so I heard him a lot growing up. He was also Elvis Presley’s favorite singer and a big influence on his vocal style. You can really hear it in this, Dino’s biggest hit.

  2. IDK, but as a kid I remember my brother, cousin, and I thinking that “Engelbert Humperdink” was the FUNNIEST thing in the world. Just absolutely roll on the floor hysterical.

    • He chose that name – his real name is  Arnold George Dorsey. Apparently, the original Engelbert Humperdinck wrote operas in the late 1800’s.

  3. Supper time growing up meant getting my dad off the deck where he was enjoying his martini & Alfred Apaka.  Fun fact:  this song was played as my wife came down the aisle & most brides in Hawaii.

  4. My grandpa ran a music station as I was growing up that played all these old songs. He had so many records and after supper, we would dance together…my feet on his. As he got older, we would go to big band events and I loved watched him dance all these old style dances. He definitely taught me a love for the old movies and music. I miss him every single day.
