but they certainly borrowed (i assume with permission)
my dad would have got a kick out of that one..or be horrified…not really sure… always hard to predict how a fan reacts when you touch anything from their favourites
i’ll ask him what he thought when i make a brief visit to the pearly gates before getting told i dont have to go home but i cant stay there and let you know
The title character is a guy named Mark Lester who’s still alive, he’s only 63 and was 8 when he was cast in the movie. He went on to become an osteopath and opened his own practice in Cheltenham, which is a lovely English town. Perhaps unsurprisingly he was a close friend of Michael Jackson, but they were born the same year, so no creepy age difference. Lester was so close to Jackson that, he claims, he was one of Jackson’s sperm donors and is the biological father of Paris. I bet you did not see that coming. Jackson always claimed to be the biological father of his three children, which…
The Artful Dodger was Jack Wild. He might be familiar as Jimmy, the Boy With the Magic Flute, from Sid and Marthy Krofft’s H. R.Puf’n’stuf. Contrary to common memory, or at least mine, only 17 episodes of Puf’n’stuf were ever made, and were shown over a single fall season. But they went into heavy rerun rotation for about another five years so it seems like there were many more. Wild, sadly, had many alcohol battles in front of him and died of oral cancer at 56. 🙁
I didn’t know that about MJ and children. Oliver was one of my most favorite movies as a kid. We did the play in elementary school so that was where I was introduced to it. I played the Artful Dodger. I tried to copy his accent. Have no idea if I was successful. We got lots of applause but they may have just been obligatory from parents.
One of the many movie versions of Oliver Twist is a 1922 silent gem starring child star Jackie Coogan and Lon Chaney as Fagin. I heartily recommend. It’s probably floating around the Web somewhere.
