Before youtube was a thing, I was about to move about 3,500 kilometres away to a place I had never been, but I had three weeks of nothing to do and without anything, but a laptop and a lamp I forgot to pack for the moving company which led to me coming across this tune put into a soccer highlight I kept watching…mostly because of the song. I have no clue what is being said, but I loved it enough to look it up and remember it after all of these years so I am going to go ahead and say that tonight, I prefer my rap in Turkish:
…I once was taught the turkish for the phrase “no brain, no hangover”…or possibly “no mind, no hangover”…but I think I must have drowned that particular recollection at some point?
I prefer my…whatever genre this is…in Turkish! I saw them live several years ago and it was awesome. I’m sure the festival I saw them at will be canceled this year. 🙁
Their newer stuff sounds a little more like mainstream American hip hop but their stuff from the earlier 2010s has all the fun Balkan instrumentals.
The genre is Israeli gypsy punk in my book. BBB is a once in a lifetime show, like Gogol Bordello (gypsy punk but not Israeli). This is my other top pic in Israeli genre
Now that is new to me! Sounds almost like Hawaiian cowboy stuff w/ the steel guitar in the background. Sounds a little like my boy Willie K who is NOT doing well right now. He just cancelled all concerts due to his cancer battle….
That’s Tomi Fujiyama, she was a pretty big star in Japan. She does some stuff in English too but I prefer the Japanese. I’m not sure if she’s still around. They do sound similar, and I guess that makes sense. I sure hope he beats this thing.
I love this. I think I know now what my theme is going to be when I do a music post. The history of Hawaiian cowboy music is wonderful. I’ve been learning to play slack key guitar the past few years and I’ve done a little digging. It goes back to the 1840s and the story behind it is cool as hell.
My mom (mam) was born in Nederland and used to teach me Dutch words when I was a kid so I do love these Dutch songs. I don’t know what they’re saying because I have no recollection of what my mom taught me. I remember about as much as they taught me in English class, which was basically to mumble “Present”.
Let me guess – you like BJM but not the Dead, lol. I’m not really a Dead fan myself but when I think music and cult that’s the first place my mind goes.
Ever heard of a syndicated radio program called The Grateful Dead Hour? The only reason why that show aired was so they could play one Dead song on the radio.
Holy shit, between yesterday’s Jane’s (NICE work, @LoveShaq) and this, you guys are right in my wheelhouse. I was playing this for work yesterday afternoon.
I too love the Cult but don’t lick the mic people! If you live in the PNW you appreciate Rain!
Dammit you beat me…I’m taking mine down!
or we could just listen to it twice 😀
Although another Cult seems more appropriate about now! Brass Against the Machine – Cult of Personality
Attention everyone! Instead of making an announcement, for now I will say it here:
If you’re experiencing a lack of imagery ’round here, you might need to clear your browser’s cache (both mobile and PC).
Back to your regular scheduled program:
*shrugs * i reallly wanted this shit to fill me up inside..
but it dont
I remember in high school it was the goth kids who were into the Cult which I never got since their music wasn’t goth-y.
Sundae Sellers – Freddy Lindquist
welcome to the netherlands
Pretty cool stuff but I prefer my rap in Japanese…
I prefer my Japanese in electronica.
I’m with you!!!
They also have some good Ska bands!
*wrecks the place in pillhead*
Well now there is a new genre for me to explore.
But I also prefer my jazz Japanese…
How about C&W in Japanese?
Now that is new to me! Sounds almost like Hawaiian cowboy stuff w/ the steel guitar in the background. Sounds a little like my boy Willie K who is NOT doing well right now. He just cancelled all concerts due to his cancer battle….
…sorry to hear that…not least because I’d been largely if not entirely unaware of his stuff until encountering it on these threads
…hope he beats it

Sorry to hear that. Sending good vibes to him!

Poniolo story is very cool history & look forward to your take on it.
I prefer my doo-wop in Japanese.
What?
My mom (mam) was born in Nederland and used to teach me Dutch words when I was a kid so I do love these Dutch songs. If you ain’t Dutch, you ain’t much:
*bounces*
nice tune! dank je
Iguana Death Cult – Sirens
needs…
…criminally understarred comment
The Cult – For The Animals:
Cult pun name Brian Jonestown Massacre – Anemone
Cult like following The Grateful Dead – Ripple
How do we give a star to one video on a post and not the other? Asking for a friend.
Let me guess – you like BJM but not the Dead, lol. I’m not really a Dead fan myself but when I think music and cult that’s the first place my mind goes.
Do you know what one Deadhead said to the other Deadhead at the concert when the drugs wore off?
“Man, this music really sucks.”
Love that, lol! My best friend in HS dragged me to see them a couple of times. They were painfully boring!
Ever heard of a syndicated radio program called The Grateful Dead Hour? The only reason why that show aired was so they could play one Dead song on the radio.
I’m here all week!
That made me snort.
Holy shit, between yesterday’s Jane’s (NICE work, @LoveShaq) and this, you guys are right in my wheelhouse. I was playing this for work yesterday afternoon.
The Cult summer of 85!
It was all from A View To A Kill
…I’m going with tangential cult references
…& perhaps more tangential even than the acronym thing
mijn buurman is een terrorist
…it’s no wonder you’re up all night ‘scythe…there’s a…let’s say kinetic quality to these that’s not exactly of the lullaby persuasion?
lol fair point
but tbh… i was in a mood last night….some shit needed working out
now i need coffee
i might still be in a mood
incidentally me preferred nickname is farscy
coz im farscical
