Deadsplinter Up! All Night: The Final Push

“Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul -

I’m as sick of the US election as anybody, but fuck it, I’m leaving it all on the field. I’ve signed up to pick up people in this little piece of nowhere and drive them to the polls. I even bought an air freshener for the car and on election day, I’ll be driving a little school bus shuttling people to vote (I’ve got a commercial drivers license). I had this nightmare some time back that the fuckwit got elected and it was because of something I didn’t do. I’ve got people I care for and I can’t let that happen. That’s why I voted the very first day of early voting here in Virginia. And that’s why I uncharacteristically got involved with the local Democratic organization and am gonna do my little bit.

  1. …thinking this might be more your…style?

…but…it’s a numbers game at the end of the day

…I bet you rock that bus like otto from the simpsons got nothing on you?

    • It’s only a little schoolbus and not a big 60-foot articulated monster like the ones I learned on.  But yes, I rock the bus.  Someday I’ll tell the story about how I came to be a bus driver for a summer back in the day.

      • I thought all school bus drivers were/are short, older chain-smoking women. At least mine were. I lived within walking distance of my elementary school and junior high school (back in the days when parents weren’t helicoptering and children were allowed to walk around unsupervised) but my high school was a bit of a schlep. And of course in high school I was involved in 100 after-school activities, God bless the old, well-funded suburban school districts of the time, so I’d take the late bus or the late-late bus home. My parents thought nothing of this. No cellphones, of course. Mattie will come back when he comes back. I liked the late- or late-late bus because that’s the one the sports guys took. So I’d be fresh off planning the Spanish club’s fiesta, let’s say, and I’d squeeze in among all the football players. My high school was enormous, plenty of football players. That Baby Boom!
