Deadsplinter Up! All Night: White Sandy Beach

Sorry, no April Fools Crap!

I spent much of my early life either at the beach or in the water. I can’t be too far away from the water for very long or get really uncomfortable and claustrophobic. I could never dream of living inland or in a big city that wasn’t on the water. The best parts of coming back to Hawaii are sitting in the sand, feeling the ocean spray, watching a sunset or sunrise with Ohana and being able to breathe.

Josh Tatofi is a local Oahu Samoan singer and son of a founding member of a band I previously featured called Kapena. Josh is now forging his own path but recently covered one of my favorites from Braddah Iz. This video was filmed at the beach I spent much of my youth and actually still play volleyball each time I return to Oahu.

Josh has an amazing voice and his mix of traditional Hawaiian and contemporary Hawaiian lends itself to Hula dancing…

His videos often incorporate modern Hula and Halaus line up to work with him…

Hope everyone is having a great week. If you don’t hear from me again, I have faked my death and living in a hut somewhere on a beach with the rest of Oahu’s homeless population. Aloha & Mahalo for your support of Deadsplinter.

  1. I never get tired of Hawaiian music.
    The great Sol Hoopii

He’s not indigenous Hawaiian, but my friend Sebastian Mueller from Germany can sure play it sweet.  I’m learning lap steel guitar and he’s one of my inspirations.

  2. I’m a Florida boy. I feel the same way about sand and beach. I lived in Atlanta for three years and was semi-successful at substituting walks in the mountains and hiking to waterfalls, but we still moved home as soon as we could.
