Deadsplinter Up! All Night: You Want It Darker

“It's always darkest before it becomes totally black.” - Mao Zedong

Dark is the Night, Cold is the Ground

Monday was the Winter Solstice, so we’re in the darkest part of the year. The good news is that the days are getting longer, little by little. Coming from a Northern city, I’ve found ways to embrace the long nights, but they always seem to last just a few week longer than I want them to despite my mitigation efforts. This year, my light doesn’t come back until Sunday, when my wife returns home after three months away. Until then, it can stay dark and I’m OK with it, because that’s the kind of hairpin I am.

And since it’s already dark, might as well break out the glowsticks and have a DARKNESS DANCE PARTY!

So, as if you couldn’t guess, the theme for tonight’s DUAN is “darkness” (or light, depending on your individual mood and/or circumstances).

And of course, as Tiny Tim said at the very first Christmas dinner in Bethlehem, England circa 1843, “A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!” Then, he went on to say, “And thank you raggedy bunch for supporting Deadsplinter and DUAN. Now can we eat for chrissake?”

  1. PJ Harvey, In the Dark Places:

That might be my favorite album of hers, pretty much all the songs are about war and English (and American) imperialism.  On YouTube they have the full album as cool videos with a bit of the lyrics spoken as poetry at the beginning or something similar, but otherwise I think after that they are the same as the album version.
and, PJ Harvey, The Darker Days of Me and Him:

I liked this album, but I felt it got kinda overlooked twixt her transition to a more folkish sound with White Chalk immediately after, and the nicely polished and well-reviewed and popular with her non-fans Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.
tl; dr: lochaber’s favorite artist is PJ Harvey

  2. …since pj harvey is taken…here’s they might be giants whistling in the dark

    …& one from prince

…& since leonard cohen was ATL…here’s the stones…in black & white, even…for good measure

    • …also…gonna chime in on the chorus of wishing you all the best on the reunion sunday…I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait but it doesn’t make the waiting any better…so good luck with that bit, too

      • Waiting won’t be hard because I’ll be busy spending all my time trying to clean this house before she gets back and sees the mess.  I let a few things slide a bit, so it’s time to give this place a going-over.

  3. More for the band names:
