Welp! Our regular provider of the DOT seems to be having intermittent internet service issues which hindered their ability to complete the DOT for today so I said I would do it and promised not to go off on an incoherent rant like I usually do. Of course I lied when I said I had some positive links to share because usually when SplinterRIP is willing to relinquish the keys to the DOT to me, Meg steps in with, “HELL NO, I’LL DO IT!”
To my surprise, all I got from Meg was this:
…which proves that if you tell the same lie repeatedly, eventually even some people who ought to know better will believe it.
So now I have to go ahead and pretend I wasn’t lying…as the saying goes, “fool me-you can’t get fooled again” at least it does according to the man we all thought would be the dumbest POTUS ever.
*NO INCOHERENT RANTING*NO INCOHERENT RANTING*NO INCOHERENT RANTING*
Apparently it is Saturday so the Brain Drain will soon spare us all.
What I’m listening to:
Sprots!
I don’t know how y’all have been experiencing the sprots going on, but I’d be interested in some feedback in the comments – other than watching the Maple Loafs choke again, I haven’t been watching. I’ve only randomly been checking the scores.
I caught the end of the Nuggets/Clippers game which is the first 45 minutes of 2 and a half minutes of basketball I’ve seen since it started back up and I was quite put off by the fake fans trying to distract the player’s free throws. What the fuck is up with that?
Anyway, the Nuggets won and forced a game 6 in the Western Conference semi-finals. Then the Celtics beat the Raptors in game 7 which means they will face the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. I’d been compelled to pay more attention to basketball in order to displace the thought that either of those teams might be feeling the real heat from the raging infernos currently surrounding one of the LA teams in the finals.
More sprots!
NHL semi-finals are going on right now, but there are no Canadian teams left so nothing to see there.
Here is an article which is apparently about Prince that Meg tried to help me out adding links to this DOT with…so I am going to pretend I know what it’s about without looking and choose, um, the sixth paragraph in it for a blockquote hoping it’s a relevant one:
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/sep/11/sheila-e-im-mad-that-prince-isnt-here-any-more
She and Prince met in the late 70s, their paths crossing until they spoke backstage after one of his gigs. Prince started coming to her home, and jamming with the Escovedo family (Sheila’s two younger brothers also played drums). “I’ve never seen him be so happy and excited, like: ‘You are so lucky to be able to play your music [together]; how do you guys know what you’re going to play?’” She introduced him to a lot of Latin music and artists, she says. “He was inspired by the people he hung around and that’s what was so cool, he didn’t hang around the same type of people all the time. The point of growing as an artist and as a person is opening yourself up to other things.” The two of them, she says, worked “together most of our lives. Since I met him, we started jamming and never stopped until a couple of years before he passed.” She has said they recorded hundreds of unreleased songs together. “There was so much music,” she says. “There were years and years and years of being in the studio with him all the time.”
Ok. So I may not be as attached to the callback as our temporarily disconnected collector of links but since I’m trying to fill in I’ll give it a shot – remember the, “we all thought would be the dumbest POTUS ever” crack I made up there ^?
I know more of the words to this thing than this bumbling buffoon, even as a Canadian, simply from seeing kids recite it in movies for fuck sakes:
Here is a warm up for the Brain Drain:
Coincidentally, the first film mentioned in this post is “Do the Right Thing” which is what I intend to do from now on because in the end lying to friends is nothing more than taking them for granted.
I’ll see myself out…
…nice resignation speech…I look forward to your tv show…although I think we can do better than poor old billy ray at this point
…still…my broadband crapping out did at least save everyone from the incoherent ranting I would otherwise have subjected them to on the subject of the incoherent ranting coming out of the other mop-haired gobshite a bunch of idiots appointed to a high enough office to really fuck shit up for everyone in sight
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/sep/10/governments-top-legal-advisers-divided-over-move-to-override-brexit-deal
..oh…& on the “listening to” thing…not everybody actually listens
Ooh, their red, white and blue
And when the band plays “Hail to the Chief”
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain’t me
I ain’t no senator’s son, son
It ain’t me
It ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one, no
Lord, don’t they help themselves, y’all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah
It ain’t me
I ain’t no millionaire’s son, no, no
It ain’t me
It ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one, no
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask ’em, “How much should we give?”
Ooh, they only answer “More! More! More!”, Y’all
…I’d love to think it was lined up deliberately by the Lincoln Project or something entertainingly devious
…but honestly…it seems more likely that they don’t know the words…& by “they” I mean the crowd, the man they came to cheer & his entire staff of “the best people”…but maybe I’m just jaded?
I MEAN….
Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don’t they help themselves, y’all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah
I think they see themselves in the lyrics. And yet, don’t recognize the irony of counting on the millionaire’s son to deliver them from the cannon and the taxman. It defies logic.
I’m with Sheila E. In that I am also mad that Prince is not here still.
This is as tough for me as losing John Prine. I’ve been checking on Toot’s condition daily and was hopeful given reports of improvement. He was a giant, and my grief is proportional.

…2020…the year of all take & no give
…damn it
Dammit!!!! Toots was the best, a true legend. At least he had a long amazing life but that doesn’t make this any easier.
nooo not toots 🙁
rest in peace mate…say hi to marley for me
your music lives on
I just listened to this and came as close to crying as I have in years. You’re home now, Toots.
I’m SORRY your a Leafs fan, I have a close friend that also lives that misery. I told him he should watch the Raptors, at least they win sometimes but he doesn’t and tries to convert me into a hockey fan. I tell him that hockey is a girls sport (you know, periods and all), no offense ladies, just a joke. I have watched so much NBA, it is the only thing that keeps me sane. If the Lakers don’t win it all I will probably break my tv.
The Dead Daisies do a great cover of Fortunate Son
Perhaps you’ll get into hockey more next year when Seattle has a team.
Perhaps but doubtful. I do have a good friend that got season tickets, crazy expensive (he is Canadian of course!)
On a lighter note…always one in every family!

Those are hilarious. 10/10 would click again.
The deal with Susan Page, USA Today reporter and moderator of the Harris-Pence debate doesn’t smell any better.
https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-09-11/seema-verma-public-image-spending
Page hosted an off the record “Girls Night” at her house for Trump health official Seema Verma, and Verma seems to have billed taxpayers for PR related to the event.
Page also wrote a piece that simply allowed Verma to launch baseless attacks on Obamacare with no pushback or even context from Page.
Verma was a top healthcare advisor to Pence in Indiana, and it seems hopelessly conflicted for Page to moderate his debate. This kind of socializing between reporters and officials is poisonous and needs to stop.
