So when I volunteered for Saturday’s DOT I figured I’d be in better shape by then. But I was wrong. So wrong.

…I’m not sure if I know what subdocs really are but I might have some idea & now I feel guilty for messing about filling the DUAN with references to red dwarf & kung fu movies when I could have been exhausting people with links for the morning…but I’m grateful to just have twitter clips to wade through with that coffee as I greet the weekend…so I have to imagine there’s others happy to skip all that scrolling, too?

Here’s an observation that will ruin the day: In that photo Prince William looks disturbingly like Stephen Miller. Poor Kate. Oh well, at least she gets to be Queen one day but if present trends hold that might take a while. Her grandfather-in-law just turned 99 and the Queen herself is 94 and she doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
More royal trivia: If her father-in-law Prince Charles lives to be 100 (and he well might; he’s led a pretty abstemious and unimaginably pampered life) she’ll be about 66. Prince Charles turns 72 on November 14. On November 15 Netflix will stream Season 4 of the “The Crown” (I can’t wait, obviously, because I am an American and almost constitutionally obligated to be fascinated with the British Royals) and it will cover The Early Diana Years. Happy birthday, Chuck!
I tried watching the Crown when it came out and couldn’t get into it. I’m excited to try again for the Diana stuff tho. Did you see the stills of the actress? She looks like a clone.
Oh, I’ve been following this with the intensity that my black Lab displays when he picks up the scent of a discarded McDonald’s french fry halfway down the block. All the trailers, all the behind-the-scenes, including the fact that, quite awkwardly, Harry and Meg have that Netflix deal so they are very tangentially, I mean really not at all, associated with this.
One of the things, the many, many things I read, was that the producers hired a stylist who actually worked with Diana. He was young at the time and I think the marriage was collapsing, or they had separated, or something. He was one of many tasked with not cloning Diana but…not reinterpreting, but giving the impression without making a clone. So the hair, for example, which is so iconic, is not exactly the same. Diana had several iconic outfits and they didn’t copy them but they…I don’t know how to describe this and I’m not sure why they did this. The wedding dress, for example, must be one of the most examined garments worn in the 20th century. They stayed true to form but didn’t clone the dress.
This is a well-trod field. Umpteen docudramas have been produced about Diana. I think there might be an opera or two floating around. I’m actually more interested in what everyone else is doing. Princess Margaret divorces and heads off to Mustique. Randy Andy meets and marries Sarah Ferguson, I hope they show up. Margaret Thatcher is going to get lots of air time.
