  1. Your header image reminded me of another reason why I hate these time changes:

When we first moved into this apartment we really used to entertain a lot. Everything we own is programmed to automatically reset except for this wall clock in the kitchen. We moved in in the Fall and one point when things were going well at some party we were having and someone looked up at the clock and said, “Oh, I didn’t realize it was that late! I have to [something kid-related]” and that kind of caused the party to break up. We had forgotten to set that clock back.

    • The tortoise reminds of how deer also eat meat (eggs, birds and even deer carcasses). I read that deer aren’t natural hunters but opportunistic scavengers and that their stomachs have the right bacteria to digest meat.

…which brings up a childhood memory. Once we were at a Chinese restaurant that had one of those giant fish tanks from which they pluck your next meal. My siblings an I decided to run an experiment and started dropping random bits of food into the tank like noodles, rice, veges. They ate it all up. Then our steamed fish arrived and out of morbid curiosity we dropped some of that in. They showed no interest in eating their ex-tankmate. I anthropomorphized those findings and felt guilty for days.

      • i love those adds 😀

but then..im firmly in camp fuckit…lets just watch it all go to hell then

probably not the most helpful camp to be….but what can you do long as gubment and the rich are calling the shots?

        • I have things I do for my own peace of mind with regards to climate change impact. But overall I agree with you. A libertarian friend (I typically find libertarians extremely fucking annoying, but there are some valid points they make) pointed out that the US military uses more fossil fuels than many countries, and after that I was like well fuck me there really is nothing we can do at the individual level to really stop shit. I mean we can do things like not litter and try not to be wasteful, but ultimately the decisions are being made by people with way more power than I ever will have.

          • according to polls im a socialist libertarian

does that make me half annoying?

but yeah….we the people can do our part and help….but it wont mean fuck all if they the money dont

            • Libertarian theorists have the luxury of mixing and matching policies to create an imaginary utopia. A real country must function simultaneously in different realms—defense and the economy, law enforcement and some kind of system of support for the poor.

              oh shit
im not convinced we have any real countrys

              • Yeah I totally flummoxed my libertarian coworker with the simple argument about how we need tighter legislation about gender pay discrimination in the workplace.

Coworker: well the market can decide, women would just go to companies that pay them fairly

Me: how will women know the fair pay if companies don’t tell them?

                Coworker: …

Me: furthermore, you also need men to decide to be altruistic in the sense of also not working at companies that don’t pay women fairly, otherwise all that will happen is those companies will continue paying women shit but since they pay men fine, they’ll not see any problems with staffing. Do you really thing most men in this country will decide to seek out companies with fair pay or be more likely to go “I got mine, so fuck you.”

                Coworker: …uh

                • same job same pay….shouldnt be complicated

never really understood why that isnt the case once you get off the shop floor

but once you hit office level…it all goes wonky….it why office staff wont tell you what they earn if asked…and floor staff just say same as you
