What things do you like best about fall?
For me:
- Cool breezes and easy breathing
- Fall foods (Stews, soups and chilies)
- Sleeping in cool temps
- Apples are in season
- In the past I would have said Hockey and Baseball playoffs but the Leafs have ruined me for hockey and this year it’s the fucking Dodgers and Yankees so I care not for either.
What things don’t you like about fall?
For me:
- Pumpkin spice. Why do we take something nice and beat it to death?
- Reminder that winter is around the corner
- Endless renditions of G’nR’s November Rain (again see 1)
- Xmas decorations in stores (TOO GODDAMNED SOON!)

I like the return of baking, but I’m not a fan of the shrinking daylight.
OT but we’re short term fostering a sweet 9 month boy dog, but he gets kind of whiny separation anxiety if anyone leaves the house.
The easy answer would be nobody ever leaves, but that’s not really possible.
That separation anxiety was something we never could “fix” with our dogs.
Most were velcro dogs.
This only day one for him, and he’s been in two different places in quick succession, so we’re hopeful he’ll settle down. He’s not seeming to be particularly neurotic, so it’s possible he will feel more comfortable in a few days. Fingers crossed.
The Spice Girls definitely missed a trick….oh wait… hard to believe there was a time before pumpkin spice.

Well, to me that’s mostly about how young Gen Z tends to look anyway (and there’s even something about many younger Millennials that somehow makes them look at least physically stunted compared to generations past). But assuming that’s even worth getting into at all, it’s at best left for another day. I was really talking about how 21-year-olds stereotypically can’t hold their shit when they drink.

The name here is genius marketing because it’s just a spice cake blend. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, sometimes allspice. Sure you could make a pumpkin pie with it. Except usually pumpkin pie recipes don’t say “add 2 tbsps pumpkin pie spice” they say actual ingredients soooo.

I really like that I can make soups and baked meals in fall without getting annoyed at heating up the house too much!
I kind of manage during the summer between an Instant Pot and combo toaster oven/air fryer that are both well insulated, but that’s no substitute for baking a big deep dish casserole of something.
Yep – workarounds sort of exist but it’s not the same as the joy of making a stew all afternoon on the stove.
That’s true, but I’m not the most active cook. Lazy is good for the most part. Certain things require the time though…
Well, I was born during this season, so I guess I’ve always had an affinity for it. The smell of fallen leaves is pretty nice, and cooler temperatures are soothing because I do tend to feel more natural and comfortable in long sleeves and my old leather jacket.
On the other hand, though, the fact that it gets dark and quiet earlier can sometimes bring on that sense of loneiness that echoes the SAD that’s right around the corner, just as the election news and ads every other year have, for the better part of this century at least, reminded me of what an ass-backwards, bottom-clinging fucking state I’ve still never escaped.

The Celtics just barely beat last year’s worst team. Take that as a good omen.
I hate the Celtics but they are going to be tough to beat this year. They drafted one of my all time favorite Zags but he will be in G league for a long time before he ever sees the Celtics court.
