What are your favorite fall activities/things?
I guess it’s the season to be curled up on the couch watching movies or reading a book while eating comforting junk food.
I actually don’t mind raking leaves because I find it therapeutic… but it’s all fun and games till tiny leaf debris get in your eye and turn the eye red/puffy/covered in pus… not that it has ever happened to me… (well, it has twice.)
Least favorite fall activities/things?
I like pumpkin pie but does it have to smell like pumpkins, nutmeg and cinnamon everywhere? The smell has lost all meaning to me now.
Where a certain team named after a certain leaf does its usual “will they or won’t they” optimistic build up till the big spring dance where they emotionally kick their fans in the emotional “goolies” leaving them with the beer tinged moans of “Next Year!”
shaving
its also my least favourite winter, spring and summer activity
kinda like doing the dishes….or mowing the lawn
no matter how often i do it……i have to do it again soon after
its fucking insanity i tell you
I love fall clothes. I wore jeans and a sweatshirt on our walk this morning. Then had the windows open most of the day. I can’t really think of a fall activity I don’t care for.
Being able to wear more than the minimum and not worry about sweating through everything again is great.
This is my favorite time of the year to just be.
Hi mom?
I went to my parents to drop off some food and my mom comes out, starts screaming about sleeping in a hotel room and losing all the blankets.
I was completely confused. So was my dad who told me that they never left their house.
Mom started screaming at dad and me about how we’re both ungrateful shits and that dad was being mean to her all day. Again, my dad was telling me later that she was screaming at him most of the day and he didn’t understand why.
Then she acted sane and demanded that I quit my job and become their slave, er, assistant. I told her no I was not going to do that. Despite the fact I loathe my employer and not a fan of the job but it gives me financial independence and some self worth as opposed to helping my dementia inflicted mom whose grip on reality is disappearing. I realize that it might sound like a good idea, but I have emotional baggage with my parents and have no actual caretaker training. It sounds horrible to say no, but I can’t do that.
She bolted out of the house and I ended up having to follow her. I forgot to bring a coat and went back to get my car. I spent 20 minutes trying to find her and then when I found her another hour to get her back to their house.
I gave a running commentary to my one of sisters as I drove around looking for her then herding her home, explaining what dad has gone through with her. She said I was being a good son, but I don’t really feel like one right now.
@ManchuCandidate That sounds exhausting and frightening. You are a good son. Leaving your job to care for them is not the answer. They probably belong in a memory care facility but convincing them of that won’t be easy.
I agree. Mom really needs help. Dad not as much he needs someone to take care of him.
I have no idea if this is an option where you are, but some places have attached apartment buildings and facilities so married couples at different levels of independence can still spend most of their time together. I’m sorry for the hard choices you ‘re facing.
That sadly is in the near future as I have initial case worker assessments to deal with over the next two weeks.
Dad was against it initially, but I told him that I will be there with the case workers when that happens. He is fine with that. I don’t know about mom anymore.
That is a lot. You are a good person and son ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yeah absofuckinglutely not on quitting the job to be a caretaker.
what will be will be 🙂
