Not that we needed more proof, but Ian Rapoport tweeted today that the FSU brass is going off the board when considering possibilities for their next head coach: Former star player, NFL Hall of Famer, and nitwit talking head Deion Sanders is apparently on the list.
Um…OK then. I’d run down the list of reasons that this is an incredibly dumb idea, but I don’t feel I need to. Sure, you can point to his lack of coaching experience at the college level, or whatever it was that happened to that charter school that he founded that lasted all of three years.
Or we can go into the reasons that guys with no experience who are being broadcasters are generally bad choices for major jobs. Whatever the case, I’m sure this can’t go poorly at all for Jameis Winston’s alma mater. I’m sure they’ll have no problems at all.
UPDATE (10:06pm):
The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Deion is, in fact, not a candidate to be the Seminoles’ head coach: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/former-seminoles-star-deion-sanders-is-not-candidate-for-florida-state-football-coaching-job/
Glad you only said “Generally” because speaking of guys with no experience who are being broadcasters, John Lynch was in broadcasting, has no GM experience, became GM of the 49ers 3 years ago and has successfully crafted the currently undefeated 49ers roster… So, it does occasionally work out…
I’m rooting for this to happen, because it’s FSU and Deion, and I despise them both.
If it means getting Deion off the air I’m all for it.
Fortunately, they won’t have to vacate many wins after Deion leaves to pursue an ‘entrepreneurial opportunity’.
Because a successful playing career can easily lead to coaching and general manager success.
Sincerely,
Isiah Thomas
