Food You Can Eat: Apple-Pear Crisp

Just in time for fall

Pretty good. The ice cream completes it.

First things first:  I wanted to get some vanilla Haagen Dazs, but I wanted to eat it with something else.  This something else needed to be easy and quick to make and it needed to be cheap, too. Enter the Apple-Pear Crisp.

A caveat before we get started: The original version of this recipe calls for Stevia.  Fuck that shit.  This is Apple-Pear Crisp.  Honey and real sugar are the only way to fly.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Lg. Anjou or Bartlett Pear, peeled and diced

1 Lg. Granny Smith or Fuji Apple, peeled and diced

1 tsp Cornstarch

1 Tbsp. Honey

⅛ tsp Ground Ginger

⅛ tsp Ground Cardamom

⅛ tsp Ground Cloves

¼ tsp Ground Nutmeg

¼ C. Uncooked Rolled Oats

¼ C. Flour

2 Tbsp. Butter, chilled and diced

1 Tbsp. Unsweetened Apple Sauce

½ tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp Sugar

In a medium bowl, stir together the crisp ingredients. Spoon ½ cup of the apple-pear mixture into three or four ovenproof glass custard cups or porcelain ramekins.

In a small bowl, stir together the topping ingredients until well blended. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit mixture in each custard cup.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, in a 375 degree oven, or until the fruit mixture is bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

I modified this recipe directly from the American Heart Association, so it is Keitel ApprovedTM

  1. I’m really confused about why it would call for Stevia when there’s so little added sugar here in the first place.

Did you do a 1:1 swap for it? Stevia is much sweeter than sugar so maybe it was originally like oh half a cup of sugar ooooooorrrr 1 tsp Stevia?
