Food You Can Eat: Shredded Beef Tacos

It's hard to share

I found this seasoning and almost ate 3lbs of beef in one sitting. I usually make my own seasoning but this one was a game changer.

Ingredients

  • 2.5-3lbs of beef brisket
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • red wine vinegar
  • Barbacoa seasoning
  • Parsley
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • oregano
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • Lime (optional)
  • Shallot (optional)
  • Jalapeno or chili flakes
  • Salt
  • Small tortillas or bakery buns/rolls
  • Shredded cheese
  • *red onion optional (either pickled or ice bathed)

Directions

  • Lightly season the meat.
  • Heat oil in a heavy pan. Sear the meat and set aside.
  • Add the rest of the seasoning to the pot. Deglaze with red wine vinegar. Pour in beef broth.
  • Return the beef to the pot and cover. Let simmer for 2hrs.
  • Meanwhile, blend the chimichurri ingredients in a food processor.
  • Remove the beef and shred. Return it to the pot and cook uncovered until most of its juices have evaporated.
  • Serve on tortillas or bread rolls with chimichurri and shredded cheese. I’ve also served it on salad.
  • *I usually add a shallot to the chimichurri or I pickle the red onion. Forgot to do either this time, so I just soaked red onion in iced water.

  1. Hey, it’s not Taco Tuesday?  Oh well, I love tacos any day of the week so I am in!  Ironically, my brother is coming this weekend and all he wants to do is eat Mexican food when he comes here since it sucks back home.

      • You don’t know what you are talking about.  A local school near me is 60%+ Spanish speaking and we have 20+ Mexican restaurants within a 3mile radius near that school.   Not all of them are great but all authentic and some are better than anything I have had in Texas or most parts of California.  Much of the migrant farm workers that came here for harvest long ago stayed and open restaurants, stores, and make up a large percentage of our construction workers.  We are also not trying to deport them & embrace them in our communities.
