This is easy, looks fancy, and tastes yummy! Once again, this is not heart healthy, but it doesn’t matter because some people won’t eat it. Stay tuned for next week for an appetizer they will eat, which is even worse.
Mix together 16 ounces softened cream cheese, 8 tablespoons mayonnaise, 4 tablespoons ketchup, 3 tablespoon seeded Dijon mustard, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/4 cup diced onion, and 1/2 cup diced celery with tops. Fold in 12 -16 ounces chopped, cooked shrimp (do not use canned). Sprinkle with paprika and chill. Serve on sliced baguette or with crackers.
I eat a bunch of crab dips but don’t see too many shrimp dips. Definitely would try this.
Where I am shrimp is much more available and it tends to be a lot easier to find sustainably harvested shrimp. Which also makes it much cheaper.
I love crab, but it’s become an awfully rare treat. I think it also tends not to make it as far past the dock as shrimp before the quality goes way down.
Right? Crab prices are insane here and we shop from a fish market that treks to the docks in Philly/Baltimore 3 or 4 times a week. The shrimp is flash frozen at the shop from same-day fresh, they often have deep discount specials, and i can fit it into the budget.
It must appear as if I serve shrimp all the time, but really I am just trying to post interesting recipes. I guess I feel that the DeadSplinterati do not want to see vegan hot dog night or 99% lean open face hamburger night or big salad with lean protein night as a FYCE feature.
Shrimp season here is a few random days in the summer. Crab is from July 3rd or so until the end of summer and a few random winter days. A bunch of my friends have boats and catch WAY more crab than they can eat so I have access to lots of crab in the summer.
It is one of my favorites – easy and served cold as opposed to hot like many crab dips. Let me know what you think of it if you make, hmmmm?
I bet I would like that.
I’ll make sure to bring it to the next DeadSplinter pot luck dinner, just for you!
some people won’t eat it
More for you! This looks delicious.
It really is – we had our first foray into post-pandemic guests over for cocktails and appetizers, and they emailed asking for the recipe the next day (and took some home with them).
I don’t know if it would make it exactly heart healthy, but using Neufchatel instead of the full-fat cream cheese and olive oil or avocado oil mayo (or the half-fat kind) would make it a little better, maybe?
It sounds delicious, though 🙂
Probably, good suggestions! I am generally in full panic, making multi-appetizers, guests will be here soon, OMG I still need to get dressed mode when I make this, so I do not deviate…but could do as you say.
Looks amazing!
Thank you!
