My eldest daughter just called me, she is graduating in a few weeks and just got her dream job!  She is going to be doing GIS for a tribal group working on river & salmon restoration.  She gets to work remotely most of the week and just go down to our state capital once per week.  She had been looking at 2 other seasonal jobs, one working in Kodiak Alaska with salmon & one locally working with beavers.  She is a very indecisive person that overthinks things so glad she figured out this was the best fit for her.

  5. You add snow to basically any sport and the viewing experience gets 1,000% better. Snowy NFL? Hell yeah. Snowy soccer? Hell yeah. Snowy outdoor hockey? HELL YEAH. Snowy baseball? WEIRD BUT LET’S GO!

    Now downpour/mudpit/slog games? Not so much, and that game between the US and Canada, kind of an embarrassment it was played under those field conditions, but that’s CONCACAF for ya!

        I do think there’s something to the idea that some sports play in all conditions (and I kinda like that to be honest!) but for a third-tier regional cup where nobody is able to play the game at all? Either find a new venue or wait until the field is playable.

  6. …sugar looks like a maybe for me…firth is good but I’m not sure if I need to take that genre for another spin particularly & I don’t currently pay apple that slice of their pie

    …the wild robot almost seems like an upbeat reimagining of ted hughes’ iron giant…& depending on who sent him there & who the voice at the end talking about rising beyond your programming might belong to…maybe even the iron woman…which was hughes’ sequel…& that would be a neat trick since that’s a sight more vengeful than hopeful, as I recall

    …fallout looks a lot of fun…& I can’t really think of anything with walton goggins in where he turned in a disappointing performance so I was probably a sure bet for that even without the rest of it

    …but the 3 body problem…I’ll watch for sure…but…I dunno?

    …the books…or at least the bits that weren’t lost in translation from the original…were great…& had a lot in them to think about

    …but a lot of the more interesting stuff that arguably set them apart from a good deal of contemporary sci fi was…let’s call it “esoteric” so I can avoid spoilers…but in ways I can’t honestly see being able to be translated into a live-action context

    …which isn’t to say you couldn’t turn them into compelling tv…pretty sure there’s several ways you could do that…but they could be pretty different depending on what you expand or contract or add or subtract…so I’m mostly curious about how they go about it more than excited there’s going to be a tv version…if that makes sense?

    • 3 Body Problem seems to have some “Dune” adjacent issues in that taking it off the page is gonna be A LOT of work. Also: Pretty depressing! That doesn’t disqualify it from being on the screen, of course, but I wonder what the appetite for that will be.

          …should by rights be an unhinged liability but somehow comes out the other side as a well-adjusted & potentially kind entity that could also murder absolutely everyone if it thought there was a good enough reason

          …as long as people keep producing enough weird & wonderful new tunes though it seems like we’d have a shot at keeping it pacified…so we got that going for us?
