  2. Korfball looks awesome, but I don’t know about having the pole in the middle of play.

    Back when the NFL had the field goal poast on the goal line, it was common for guys to mess themselves up running into it. I’d hate to see Paul George-style injuries.

    • Rugby still has the posts on the try line.  It can be pretty cringy, but also kind of cool because you can use the post as a pick.  I’ve never seen anybody get seriously hurt running into them.

    • used to play korfball in school….people running in to the pole didnt really happen

      running into eachother occasionally did….and that can get very awkward very quick between mixed gender 12/13 year olds.,..lol

      anyways…far as i know its still a pretty popular sport over here

  4. UK election follow: I’ve been half-following this series. The quality of the segments has varied greatly, but that said, I’ve felt that overall it was good.

    Dutch politics follow: I’m hoping that @farscythe, aka Our Man in Akersloot, will have a weekly Dick Schoof round-up after the new PM was sworn in 2 July. Need to keep an eye on the new (compromise) guy.

  5. Ehh, I’m not wishing to lose any of my fingers (at least on my left hand), but some days I think I could functionally live with just the one.

    Or, wait – maybe two, just so I could point at the other person beforehand as well.

    • Are you left-handed? I am. It’s a little bit of a pain in the neck but we are well-represented in the White House. From Infallible Wiki:

      • Yeah, and I used to think that it was a stroke of luck to have been born that way in the light of the cerebral palsy because I have decidedly less strength and function in my right hand, but my mom told me once not relatively all that long ago that I had to be trained to favor my left side. (If that really happened, then I have no memory of it because, as far as I’m concerned, this is how I’ve always been.)

        • You know the sayig, “The left coast [Cali-FOUR-nya?] is the best coast?” Well, the left hand is the best hand. Although oddly I myself am a little bit ambidextrous. My “mouse hand” (the hand I use to move the mouse around on my desktop) is my right hand, and when I used to play tennis I served and returned with my right side. Although it could be that that’s the way I was taught.

          • Oh, yeah. And I’ve been starting to think these past few years that maybe left-handed people aren’t really as uncommon as they say, so much as many of them were just taught or incentivized not to be so.

            • My uncle (born in the 1940s) had nuns hit him with rulers because he was left-handed until he switched. Betcha there’s a decent number of folks aged 50+ who would have been left-handed by choice.

              I, on the other hand, was a little wimp who caved to peer pressure in kindergarden and switched hands on my own to be right-handed.

              • STOP DENYING YOURSELF, THEN! I mean, if your political beliefs can escape from your upbringing and turn left, there’s no reason your hand dominance can’t do that as well.
