New ‘Jeopardy!’ host made disparaging comments about women, Jewish people and Haiti on podcast, report says

OMG.
Have an awesome day!
I knew that TOPPS still existed because I was at a party (here we go again) and met a woman who had recently mored to NYC. I asked what her motivation was. She was a designer for TOPPS and they moved their operation; they were upstate I think. I told her I had never collected baseball cards and didn’t know anything about baseball. She said, “please stay by my side because a lot of people go nuts when they find this out about me and want to spend hours jabbering baseball trivia at me.”
I knew they still existed because there is a card shop in a plaza near me, and an acquaintance works there. Like Cousin Matthew, I’ve never owned a single card and have no interest in them whatsoever.
Re: Mike Richards. It’s high time everyone realized that trying to seem “funny” and “edgy” can have long-term consequences when you record your behavior on the Internet. That’s why I don’t post on Twitter any more, and generally keep my social media posts (when I make them) mundane. You don’t need someone pulling up your Twitter feed in a job interview.
Those ill-advised comments he made on his podcast were made when he was 38 and/or 39, not 18 or 19 or 8 or 9. I am waiting for him to play the “youthful indiscretions” card.
CANCEL* CULTURE STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!
* – alternatively and more correctly known as “having to face consequences for being a racist/sexist/homophobic jackass publicly in the past”
Thank you! And you know who else correctly identified this phenomenon as such?
LeVar Burton, that’s who!
I don’t think the Dr. Seuss co. has gone far enough. They removed 6 obscure racist books from their roster. The Cat In The Hat, which has been linked to Blackface minstrelsy, remains in print, video, and is their logo mascot.
…part of me isn’t surprised exactly to hear that suess was more problematic than I knew about…but…damn…I have fond memories of the cat in the hat books from when I was a kid…so that pretty much sucks to find out
Same! Wacky Wednesday was my favorite and I was looking forward to reading Dr. Seuss to my kids. I’ve chosen not to. There are plenty of old and new rhyming children’s books available which aren’t problematic. No big loss on the kids’ part.
…they better never find anything out to put where the wild things are on the discard pile, though…I don’t know as I could take that?
um…
I have heard criticisms of that based on the illustrations with some of the characters wearing clothing and similar associated with Native Americans.
…ah, well…good thing I can’t hear you, I guess?
That is an excellent piece of research into how karma really does exist, since it was published four months before this recent Richards fiasco.
By the way, can you (or anyone) tell me how I can convert a URL link into narrative text, like you just did with the LeVar Burton link?
…in the edit window/box you compose these in there’s the button for turning stuff into a link…& if you click on the little cog at the far end of the box it pulls up that should take you to a slightly more extensive version where you can specify the link & the text the link displays as
…full disclosure, in my experience it works a bit differently on a phone than on a desktop…so if you try it with text you already typed check that it hasn’t replicated it (so you get the text twice, one with & one without the link part) before you post the comment?
Thank you! I will try to remember this and attempt it.
Should be called Consequence Culture
At least his run was short!

Yeah, there was no way he was going to last even after the first round of BS came to light. The next question is will he still be in charge of hiring the next person. Looks like they’re running another round of guest hosts instead of going with LeVar.
There is a weird stench to the management of Sony Entertainment that seems even worse than most Hollywood outfits. I can’t put my finger on it, but it seems like the management is even more out of touch, petty, corrupt, and abusive than the average.
I am torn on this one:
Texas hospitals may soon deny unvaccinated patients access to ICU beds
On the one hand, yes, fuck those assholes who refused to get vaccinated. On the other hand, kids and immuno-compromised. I would hope the policy considers this.
And of course we can’t forget Governor Abbott, who is actively supporting virus spread among younger populations.
Nope nope.
As much as I love the karma of this one, just nope. I can understand denying ICU space if the patient is deteriorating very fast and they don’t think they can make it and there are other patients coming in who can probably pull through. But not this.
If someone gets AIDS because they share needles, do we deny them medical care? What if they are in a car wreck because they’re drunk driving? We shouldn’t go down the path of moralizing ICU access.
Hey look, conservatives had no trouble with masking in 1983!
If you showed it to a conservative, they’d just say “Masks didn’t stop AIDS. That proves masks don’t work!” They are masters of the straw man argument.
there’s a lot of weird compare/contrast of how conservatives treat this pandemic, compared to how they reacted to the 80s/90s AIDS crisis…
File this under “what could go wrong?”

It’s Fur Face Friday!
https://backtalkvillage.blogspot.com/2021/08/fur-face-friday-welcome-to-fur-face.html?m=1
*twitches* came home to find a daughter unexpectedly home for the weekend….well…there goes my plan for mushroom madras for dinner…which she apolegized for…anyhoos..went back to shop for the ingredients needed for eggfried noodles with paksoi and peppers..and got to cooking….she hounded me in the kitchen trying to figure out what i was making and what the scrambled eggs were for…

now bare in mind this is already some 2 hours after initially learning i had to change my dinner plans but yeah…got the food out on the table and was about to put the bowls out and its….. oh…you dont have to put a bowl out for me….i had a late lunch
i am pretty sure it would count as self defense now….at the very least mitigating circumstances…. like…getting probation would probably be fair….but no more than that
…that is some extreme provocation you’re dealing with, there…I don’t know that taking a deep breath would make much of a dent?
its probably a better plan than murder
oh well…at least the food was tasty…. just annoyed i didnt get my damn curry now
