Get it off your chest [NOT 15/7/21]

If I had this folder, it'd be so fucking full that I would need to sort them by month.

Hi, friends!

We haven’t had a whine or rant post in awhile, so let’s do one.

I’ll start.

I don’t know what the fuck people are doing on the highway but the people doing less than the speed limit (and not in the slow lane) has been especially bad this week. I admit I can lose my shit sometimes when that happens, but good news I’m not an aggressive driver so no one’s at risk.

Next rant

The folks I work for announced a giant group plan without checking to see if we had budget (spoiler alert – we don’t), time capacity (none of that either), or permission to do with covid rules in our facilities (hahahhahahahah we definitely don’t have this) and told all the teams about it. So now we’re like… now what the fuck….

  1. OMG @brightersideoflife I  have experienced that. I hear other versions of it from friends and family. To use a jargon word, management must involve the employee/departmental stakeholders. Recently I heard a tale about a middle management decision to arrange a shipping area. This resulted in the putting up and tearing down of rows of huge factory shipping department shelving units, 3 times… because neither the owner of the company nor the shipping staff were consulted on the layout. Or there is the story about a coworker trying to sneak in a change to a publication, assuming I would just approve it. Nope nope nope, there were eight stakeholders for that change, technical limitations, and hours of adds to task for other areas. Shocked! They were shocked, I tell you…muhahaha.

Please do let we DeadSplinterites know how that impossible group plan resolves!

  2. This hits me at the right time. Work fucking sucks. I work in the training department handling finances, and my shit runs like a fine Swiss watch. We make money, we switched smoothly from in-person training to virtual when the pandemic hit, we’ve got this shit down. I’ve got a fucking 80% profit margin.

Since no good deed goes unpunished, I get handed the financials for our conferences. Sweet baby Jesus, what a clusterfuck. These idiots have no idea how to set up a conference that makes actual money. And now I’m sucked into emergency meetings on “what do we do, what do we do, OMG.”

Seriously, the people who ran this department didn’t bother to think that hey, maybe nobody’s willing to go hang out with a few hundred people in a fucking pandemic. And then they signed contracts obligating us to very expensive AV services to make the damn things “virtual.” None of these idiots seem to understand how to solicit competitive bids. Or more likely they took kickbacks. At this point, there is no conceivable way to make these things turn a profit or even break even. Moreover, they won’t even try.

I suggested dropping the price and then doing a marketing blitz and the CFO is like, no, I don’t want to drop the price. Bitch, when you’re falling out of an airplane you might as well try to make a parachute out of your fucking underwear. YOU GOT NOTHING TO FUCKING LOSE.

My boss is like “we need your insight” and I’m like “that only works if you fucking LISTEN.” To be fair, she’d do what I say but she got overruled.

I’m trying to do the financials for the rest of the year. Mostly I’m just drinking. I could put literally almost anything because that shit is completely fucked.

Okay. Deep breaths, serenity now. I’ve used my quota of “fucks” for the rest of the month.

  3. Has your area legalized pot recently?  When that happened here everyone started driving slower & hanging out in the fast lane.  I wish I could also say I don’t lose my shit but I do!

      • For all intents and purposes, medical is effectively legal with some minor paperwork attached.
I once used to hangout with a major pothead, who refused to get a medical marijuana card, because they wanted to maybe work for the FBI/feds someday, and was worried documentation of their activities would interfere.  I tried to explain to them that if the feds do any sort of background check (like, anything that would turn up a card/prescription), the feds are going to know about the pot habit.  :/

  4. Not a whole lot to complain about here, things are going remarkably okay.
I guess I’ve got a few minor irritations about impatient assholes I have to deal with on my bicycle commute – both other cyclists and automobiles.  I slow down to what I think is a reasonably safe speed (depending on distance/room) when I have to pass children, dogs, or uncertain/erratic adults (pedestrian or slow cyclists).  Fairly often when I’m doing this, some other cyclist ends up squeezing by in the too-narrow space available, far too fast.  It’s especially annoying once I end up blowing past them a couple minutes later – they aren’t even going very fast, they just can’t be arsed to slow down enough to give other people some room for all of 5 seconds.
And those cars that pass me just to pull over and double park in the bike lane half a block away…  Or even worse, to pull over right in front of me as I’m crossing an intersection, meaning I have to make a sudden stop in the middle of the intersection, and hope traffic lets up enough for me to move into a lane before the light changes…
If I don’t post for a couple days, it’s probably a fair bet some car did this to me right after I’ve had a really bad day, and I decided to knock out a window, and then got run over and/or arrested.  I don’t think I’m typically an angry or violent person, but some of these drivers can really try me…

  5. Mrs Butcher’s muffler fell off her car so that was $500 out the door. These things happen. The very day that we got her car repaired the AC went to shit in my car. So much for my plan to pay off our HELOC in time to start paying for the cesspool replacement.

  6. i actually got most of my bitching done in previous dots this week
today im good…its friday…no overtime to deal with (i mean..i have the option…but..its friday so hahahahahahahaha no fuck off…the weekend is holy…cant make me)
everything work related is in a state of complete chaos mostly thanks to management being divorced from reality….and monday to thursday i even care a little about that
but not today motherfuckers… my powers of giving a fuck will re activate by tuesday
(i took monday off as its V day in europe)
(V day in europe obviously being the day i get my second jab…and i dont feel like cycling to work then to the jab site and then back to work…so i took the day off)

    • congrats on the appointment for the second dose, hopefully you experience minimal side effects.
I was pretty slow scheduling my vaccinations, so everyone at my work place got theirs a bit before I did.  I scheduled sick leave for the day of vaccination and the day after, but I was pretty lucky, and didn’t really get hit with any side effects.  I felt almost guilty going in to work after a couple easy days off, and some of my coworkers were still not 100%, even though they got their second dose before I did.

  7. All good here except my Tuesday meeting got bumped to Friday so I have to log on today and listen to some guy read a document I read last week. I compiled a bunch of data from 3 or 4 different accounting reports and for some unknown/insane/illogical reason all of the reports have a slightly different arrangement. Silly me, I thought bean counters thrived on order. These clowns can’t even label their units correctly.
