Another week, another Good Things post! Let’s start the week off with some positive things.
December 6th is the Feast of St. Nicholas, which growing up Catholic meant we left a shoe for St. Nick the night before and we’d have some candy or a small toy in the morning. Also usually the teachers (again, Catholic school) had candy for us if this happened on a school day. So what I am getting at is that if you treated yourself today to anything fun, it was in keeping with the holiday spirit and totally necessary.
I bought a family sized bag of Chex mix at Costco today. I was pretty excited because I was thinking it was like the “big” bag I normally get at the grocery store and it was $3.79. HOLY HELL it’s 2.5 lbs (1.13 kg) of Chex mix!!!
Given the likelihood that I will literally strap that bag on like a feed sack, I am taking a large ziploc bag of it over to my parent’s house tonight.
Also, I should find out this week if I got that job I interviewed for. The interview went really well, so I am optimistic!
Also, also, Giuliani has covid apparently. Maybe the DBIC “legal” team will have to quarantine and we’ll see less bullshit from them this week?
Bonus question! Guess what DBIC stands for! It’s what my friends and I refer to Trump as.
Dumb Bastard Incompetent Cunt.
If Giuliani dies, then that’ll be my good thing for the week.
While I love the description provided, it’s not what we mean. It’s a play on calling the president the commander __ _____. With the D and B reflecting a common insult based on a product hazardous to women’s reproductive health.
Deadbeats in charge?
I decorated my tree today. It’s the first time I’ve done it in several years. We used to travel every year to visit family for Christmas, it was a lot of work to not even be at home to enjoy it. Last year was the first time we didn’t but I still didn’t bother. This year I didn’t even have to come up with an excuse not to go so that’s another good thing!
Poor Rudy *snicker*
We got our tree yesterday from a local garden center we somehow never visited before that’s located in a 150+ year old farmhouse and they were decorated top to bottom in Christmas stuff. Totally overwhelming but so earnest you can’t help but like it.
Me and the sheepdog walked up in the hills today and saw many deer and those fat woodchuck things and it was sunny and then we both napped on the porch until the sun started going down and it got too chilly to be out there.
That sounds like a nice day.
Where in Italy is that?
Blue Ridge Mountains, SW Virginia.
I guess I was about six times zones wrong there. But at least both places have an area called Piedmont.
There’s a Piedmont, Missouri, too!
I don’t recommend you visit it though.
Ages ago a comedian riffed on what was then Piedmont Airlines.
“I don’t understand why you would name your airline after the mountain range you crash into most often. “
I am eating food on a normal basis again! My stomach is doing much better. Hopefully it will last. Also I did a nice Christmasy manicure and that makes me happy.
Maybe you had a bug of some kind.
Most likely I was consuming something that had ingredients of one of my food allergies/intolerances.
I’m so glad your body isn’t full-scale revolting when you try to eat!
Good things… I got a free McRib for lunch and it didn’t hurt after I ate it, so, yay, the meds they gave me are helping!
I discovered this show, Transplant, on Hulu. If you like medical shows, give this one a go.
My kids did their chores with hardly any reminders.
I started a new crochet project today and, after a few false starts (which is what I get for insisting on figuring it out for myself), it’s going well.
@HoneySmacks New crochet project? When we haven’t seen the finished one yet? That’s not right.
DBIC…dirt bag idiot conspiracists…dumb bigot in chief…
You have the back half right – it’s in chief. The front half – think of a common insult that is also a product marketed to women but bad for vaginal health.
Douche Bag Idolatry Committee?
Finished our holiday shopping/errands today. Shipping stuff out tomorrow, and then we’re in position for a relaxing holiday season.
I did my shipping yesterday and it was nice to get it done long in advance of the date my friends need to get their stuff.
You have the first part right, you just need the I and C part. Think about what we call presidents — commander – (I) – (C).
Ah, Douche Bag in Chief. Nice.
NAILED IT!
Fingers crossed for the job! I would feel all “karma is a bitch” about Giuliani, but odds are he will get A++ medical care, will recover, and will be all “COVID is no big deal, I’m living proof of it!”
I’m direly in need of some positive thinking, so: A good training session with our neurotic dog. Making progress on a big writing project even in the absence of motivation. Receiving my first Christmas present (which I won’t open until Xmas!). Figuring out how to make ridiculously sweet coffee drinks myself. Attending a fun virtual book club. Hosting a fun virtual event for our students.
So many good things when I think about it. 🙂
You have any of those pump bottles of flavored syrups? I feel like a lot of fancy coffee drinks use those since they can be sweetened syrups and that’s easier to mix with coffee than granulated sugar.
Not yet – that might be my next step! I use a mix of oat milk (sweet in itself) and almond milk creamer (very sweet). Recently, I found caramel toffee -flavored almond milk creamer – it’s divine!
I treated myself to a poutine for supper. No small feat. It involved having my mom ship me St-Hubert BBQ sauce, finding proper cheese curds, and ordering a bucket of fries. It was glorious.
Thanks, I’m drooling now.
This week wasn’t horrible. Got my bike back after a broken spoke and axel, and my commute shortened by a good 5-10 minutes. At first I wasn’t sure if it was just the nice rest of a couple days due to Thanksgiving break, but every day this past week I managed to get home in ~55 minutes, and one time at ~51minutes. typical commute immediately before was ~65 minutes, ~60 minutes on a good day if I hit all the lights right. So that’s kinda satisfying.
once Covid lets up, I’m considering checking out a JuJitsu dojo near me. It’s sorta been in the back of my mind for a few years, but just wasn’t a possibility with my previous job’s schedule. It looks like they have the same school that I had practiced a bit as a teen, which is a large part of the appeal. Not really terribly concerned with combat skills and such, but figure now that I have a more predictable schedule, I should maybe look into picking up some activities besides drunking and internetting…
damnit, can’t get the edit to work, and forgot about your question. Granted, I already seen the answer, and I know mine is doubly wrong, but I felt I had to share it, because the first thing that came to mind (and that I couldn’t get out of my head) is:
DumBass In Chief
:/
Douchebag in Chief!

I had a nice chat with one of my sisters. We talked about our Thanksgivings. She threw a traditional one, and there were five people total. Her daughter’s boyfriend lives nearby so he dropped in for dessert. My sister had five to choose from, and each one would have fed five. The boyfriend mentioned that at his Thanksgiving they only had one dessert. According to that sister, her Thanksgiving party “literally gasped in disbelief.”
When (and if) you read my FYCE posts remember that this is where I come from.
