Beginning next weekend (July 31 and August 1), your friends at Food You Can Eat are expanding to seven days a week, noon Eastern. Soon, you can read recipes and get hungry before lunch every day (sorry @MemeWeaver)!
And (ta da) it gives me great pleasure to announce two new DeadSplinter features, to be published fortnightly:
Starting Saturday August 7, @MatthewCrawley will be posting Notes from a Traveler: [Insert location here], categorized as Travel, in the FYCE time slot. These articles may involve food, the Better Half, or the Faithful Beast. Who knows?
As of Sunday August 8, @Sedevilc will give us a new FYCE column, All Rise – Breadbaking. She is kindly going to try to teach us how to bake breads, and possibly cure some of us of our fear of yeast. Sedevilc is a woman after my own heart; she created an outline to ensure that there is enough content in a sensible order…plus we may have a special two-week sourdough bread feature.
Please join me in extending best wishes and thanks to Cousin M and Sedevilc as they begin these new, regular posts. Bon Chance and Bon Appetit!
Awesome. Very much looking forward to the new stuff from Matt and Sedevilc–especially the bread posts. I can always stand to learn something new in that regard.
You will all live to regret this. My portion I mean.
…I doubt that…always been fond of the long read, myself…& most of them aren’t nearly as fun as your stories?
I don’t see where “long read” was mentioned but surely, coming from you, Cousin Matthew can take it as a compliment?
…well, I know some people don’t like to scroll overmuch…& honestly it was the only explanation I could think of for why he thought we might regret anything of the sort
…so, yes…definitely intended to be the indirect route to a compliment
Ack, I’m already intimidated by the fact you were a professional baker! I am a self taught [well, one lesson] bread baker, so go easy on me!
wooooo! moar stuff!
best of luck to both of yous
i promise to be as unhelpful to the topic as ever
I have steeled myself for the making of the scary bread; the yeast is on the grocery list. The few times I have tried yeast bread it, well to be generous, sucked. This old dog is ready to learn a new trick.
Oh no no no, please do not buy grocery store yeas unless it is SAF instant yeast[red]. LESSON 1 DONE!
@Sedevilc This is why I need your All Rise feature. I have tried making yeast bread in the past and it has never turned out right. Maybe the problem was grocery store yeast. I’m looking forward to getting some guidance.
Hoping to take some of the mystery out of breadbaking. No need to buy anything yet. According to my outline week one is a discussion of equipment and ingredients so there will be plenty of time to gather supplies.
/me was not prepared for the scary bread rabbit hole he just fell into
OMG those shoes!
im amazed she can dance in those
…on a tangent that starts with “the baker” this one is fairly entertaining & a list a little nuts in places

i want to see it now…mr understated from band of brothers is one of my faves!
close to ratface from postal…who is my all time bestie
no i dont know their names
Also, all the stories Cousin M has told within comments or FYCE could be compiled into a book, so I am looking forward to this!
@matthewcrawley is the Slick Rick of DS commentary.

@MatthewCrawley There can’t be too many fun stories. Especially ones that include the Faithful Beast. 😁
I love this place and all you people! Cheers all around!
I’m happy to take one for the team. More content is more better!
