Great Success! [NOT 2/7/24]

Hi, friends!

Do you have a task around the house or workplace that makes you feel disproportionate amounts of success when you complete it?

For me, weirdly it’s emptying out my fridge. It was way too full (and it’s one of those annoying side by side styles that doesn’t have good storage space for anything). Saturday was a tight fit when I brought home things from the farmers market. Sunday was even worse as I prepped things and had leftovers.

Finally today? I’ve got an entire empty shelf again. Not for long as I’m making dinner soon, LOL.

I am not really sure why emptying out the fridge gives me feelings of great success. It might be related to concerns about wasting food – for example, I think I’m baking something with peaches tomorrow as looks like some of the ones I bought Saturday got rather bruised up. Maybe I’ll just cook them down with some nutmeg and vanilla to go in yogurt instead? Who knows!

  1. I had another physical therapy session today. I’m like Margaret Mead among the Samoans. I will not report my findings because it’s not the 1930s. But they’re very interesting, believe me. At least my friends and family think so.

I will say that at the last session I had my eye on this pretty cute guy young enough to be my son, or grandson, depending on region and background. We happened to be doing a light workout together and he was wearing a T-shirt featuring a California brewery I knew about. So we got talking about Cali-FOUR-nya? He’s a native, spent all his life there, but is posted to New York briefly for academic reasons and can’t wait to get back.

He’s a huge fan of NorCal, where he lives with his girlfriend 🙁 and I bit my tongue. I have been all over “NorCal” so I can talk about it, but honestly. LA’s the place to be, baby!

  2. I’m back up to 40-45 minutes on the exercise bike, which is the right length for one drama or two sitcoms. It helps burn a few extra calories and get my media watched in neat packages.

  3. Keeping up with the two hummingbird feeders in the summer feels like a real chore. It’s really not that big of a deal, but I will procrastinate for DAYS.

    • I was sitting on my porch right before I had lunch today and a whitetail strolled down the alley maybe 10 feet from me. I said hi to her and she looked at me and then calmly kept walking.

Our city vermin are getting bolder.

      • We had two deer in our neighborhood yesterday (Tuesday) in our neighborhood. They use the irrigation canal that borders our ‘hood as a path, but they clearly wandered off that path and were very skittish. They found their way back pretty quickly after backpedaling away from a couple dog-walkers.
