Groundhog Day! [2/2/21]

I mean, isn’t every day Groundhog Day?

I’m guessing the little guy will predict 6 more weeks of winter because, well, why the hell not?

Snow Day! Oh, wait, you’re already stuck at home.

  1. I am not a climate change denier but this hysteria over random weather events in NYC is needlessly panic-provocative. New York is not Miami so snow in February should be expected. We usually don’t get this much because Manhattan is a protected harbor with its own ecosystem that, in normal times, throws off enough heat and energy to keep winter climate effects at bay. Snowfall is measured in Central Park but it’s usually overstated. It is, by NYC standards, a huge open meadow. My barometer for snowfall amounts is what I see piled up on cars parked within view of my home-office window. We got six inches, maybe? I live a half mile from Central Park.

For reasons unknown three inches can cripple the entire tri-state area, it happened not too long ago, but New York didn’t used to be like this. I like watching weather-related filler on local newscasts. “You’d have to go back all the way to 1954 to find a December day as warm as the one we had today on this date.” That’s funny. My oldest brother was alive in 1954 and my mother was pregnant with my oldest sister at the time, and both siblings are still alive. “This ties a record set back in 1973…” Wait a minute. I was alive in 1973. And whatever record set back in 1973 had been reached or exceeded several times before then.

Another rant from this disgruntled shut-in.

    • I am continually stunned at how much more people in northern states freak out over snow that they used to back in the day.  I don’t know what it is.  I can only assume it’s the local weather people screaming about THE STORM OF THE CENTURY every time we get more than a couple inches.  All I know is that people who used to drive through snow like nobody’s business are now just as terrified of it as people in the south.

      • Count me in as one of the crowd.  My commute has varied from 30 mins to 1 hr based on work location over the last 25 yrs. Having dealt with the white knuckle drive, and seeing how bad other assholes drive, (this being nj), I’ve resigned to just take the day off. I personally have never gotten stuck or in a snow related crash, but I’ve seen more than my fair share , and the risk is not worth the days pay. If I do crash, I lose the days pay, and I’m out the tow and deductible. Just not worth the headache and stress.

  2. Reading about people cutting the line for vaccinations from BC hedge fund douche and his stupid actress wife to Soul Cycle instructor who claimed she was an educator.
The one things these dipshits forgot is that they need TWO shots for the vaccine to take hold.
Good luck getting the second one, scumbags.

  3. Speaking of Groundhog Day…

    SPOILER SPACE

Palm Springs is pretty funny. It is paper thin, so don’t think too hard or look for a coherent message, but it does a good job of following through on the set up.
