Guess how long DeadSplinter’s been active …

If you said five years (as of 29 Oct), hey, you’re right. DeadSplinter is celebrating half a decade of Daily Open Threads, DeadSplinter Up All Night, Nightly Open Threads, Food You Can Eat, Brain Drains, Coffee Breaks, City Walks, Friday Free-For-Alls, and all the other ways we inform and amuse each other and the Internet in general.

So how are we celebrating? Let me count the ways:

  1. Well, it’s an election year (you probably haven’t noticed; we hardly ever mention it) and DeadSplinter originally launched from the remains of a now-defunct political site, so we’re going to host a giant Zoom call for everybody on Election Night, Nov. 5. We can watch the returns, drink, watch more returns, drink more, and hopefully celebrate a major victory for democracy. Or drink a LOT more to kill the pain. Our very own MegMegMcGee will be sending out the Zoom invites so let her know you want one by sending a message to @megmegmcgee. You’ll have to provide your own drinks and snacks, though.
  2. We’re going to be posting lots of special columns and content starting Oct. 29 and leading up to the big day. We’ve already got some volunteers but we’d like for more of you to contribute, too. So that’s your invitation to speak up and discuss issues of importance to you. (The topics of bacon and Krispy Kreme donuts are off the table, though.) Just message @myopicprophet that you want to contribute so you can be scheduled in and let us hear from you.
  3. Of course, we’ll be posting all our regular columns and features, so you’re going to want to be here for them too.

And while DeadSplinter is a labor of love, please remember there are hard costs too. Please don’t feel pressured to donate, but if you can spare some cash to help pay our hosting fees, you can donate here or PayPal username @deadsplinter.

    Despite being a Jersey guy, Christie is evidently a huge Cowboys suckup. And of course he brings his GOP pedigree to insult a coach who has absolutely huge respect in Michigan.

    The Lions had a tough win on the road against the top team in the NFC North today, so Campbell’s stock is going up even more. Good job, Christie!
