Happy 3rd Birthday! [DOT 29/10/22]

Hi all! Today is the 3rd anniversary of the launch of Deadsplinter. Thanks to all of you for coming around and sticking around with us.

Sounds like he’s lucky to be alive.

    • Deadsplinter has reached the point where we don’t need diapers and we’re not sticking our fingers in sockets!

  1. DePape seems like someone who went from “Woowoo” ignorant lefty to full on nutzo righty in the past decade.

What really annoys me (still) is how easy it is for Right Wing bullshit to stay up WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, etc and only pulled it down after his mental tipping point. It pisses me off that Youtube constantly tries to shove the Epoch Times (Fallun Gong which a late cousin’s family is involved with) and Steve Crowder on me constantly even though I have zero interest in watching those channels.

    • You can get them to stop recommending certain channels.  I forget exactly how at the moment.

      • On the YT home page, underneath the thumbnail on the right side you’ll see three vertical dots.  Open that and one option is “Don’t recommend this channel.”

    • The press is largely in denial, but there is a huge difference between the ways the two parties have dealt with conspiracy groups. The Democrats have avoided catering to antivaxxers and flat earthers. The GOP has actively recruited them.

The establishment political press has bent over backwards to accept the GOP framing of Q-n-n as no different from peaceful Black Lives Matter and climate change protestors, and to pretend that the GOP isn’t actively recruiting Boebert types into their ranks while there are simply no similar proponents of violence in Congress or state house on the left. It’s just gross.

  2. Happy Birthday to us! I think the internet should get us a present.

I don’t feel comfortable saying Rest In Peace  for The Killer. He was a piece of shit. But I did enjoy his piano stylings.

    • It’s out of print but there’s a great book called Rough Mix by producer Jimmy Bowen. In part of it he talks about how absolutely insane Lewis was.

      • It’s amazing how often people don’t know about the seamy undersides to their “heroes.” I think I mentioned before that a friend kept extolling Phil Spector’s Christmas album every year on social media. I finally got tired of it and told him that A. Spector is a convicted murderer following decades of abusing women and B. he’s going to spend the rest of whatever miserable life he has in jail. My friend had no idea.

Edit: I should point out this was a few years ago and Spector died last year. Putting the conversation in present tense makes it sound like Spector is still around. He ain’t.

        • There’s a podcast called Disgraceland by Jake Brennen that relates outrageous music tales. Most of it is stuff I already knew but he’s a great storyteller and it’s worth a listen.

    • I didn’t know anything about him until this morning when I read this very detailed Rolling Stone article written in in 1984. Disgusting but not surprising what he has gotten away with over the course of his life. Major side eye to those tweeting polite RIP tributes to that man.

    • People now try to write it off by saying but, but, times were different back then.

Except back then people were freaking out about his 13 year old wife. It’s the excusers today who are inventing new rules for judging.

  3. I remember when the original Splinter stopped updating for 2 days and thinking to myself, “now what?”

  4. Paul Pelosi apparently kept his cool when confronting the lunatic, and surreptitiously dialed 911 and made coded statements like “What are you doing here? What are you going to do to me?” until the dispatcher clued in and sent help. The man is smart and brave. I doubt I’d have the presence of mind to pull that off.

Reported by CNN and repeated here:

    https://www.rawstory.com/paul-pelosi-2658566542/

    • Yeah and it sounds like the 911 operator was on her game as well! Quick thinking all around.

      • In a number of places there’s been more training of 911 operators to be on the lookout for calls like this, especially in domestic abuse cases, where someone might be listening in.

Things like asking yes or no questions that don’t require the caller to hint why they’re calling, giving the caller something to repeat which makes it sound like it’s not a 911 call, etc.

  5. Happy Happy Birthday!!!! Deadsplinter is populated by only finest of folks!

    • I hope they also compiled “baseball cards” for all the fucking neo-nazis, MAGAts, proud boys, insurrectionists, etc.

    • I’m cackling because I’m imagining here in an old timely suit with the glass headpiece and the hose of air from the surface.

  6. Happy Birthday to everyone here! Thanks for letting me be part of it.
