Happy Halloween! [DOT 31/10/20]

We were planning a little bit of an outside do in my neighborhood for Halloween, but recently found out a neighbor tested positive for Covid; so I got to be the person who sent a mass email cancelling Halloween.

I feel like such a witch, even though I know it’s the right thing to do.

Hope you all have more treats than tricks in your plastic pumpkin today.

Three more sleeps.

    • …it’s not enough that the clocks change…they have to change on different schedules…it seems needlessly complicated when I think about it

…every now & again I wonder why they have to shift back & forth by an hour…seems like we could split the difference & shift them all by half an hour & then leave them the hell alone…except I guess that would throw out all the folks synchronizing their sundials at noon?

…reminds me of a paper I read years ago, though…let me see if I can find it…&…this looks like a .pdf version?

      https://www3.nd.edu/~jspeaks/courses/2009-10/20229/LECTURES/4-mctaggart.pdf

…either way, I definitely remember it seeming unfair as a student that I had to get up & make it to a 9am tutorial to argue about “the unreality of time”

      • i recall something about daylight savings being agreed upon so theres more daylight time to work in
sounds about right to me…. screw you buggers going home early coz its too dark to work…we’re just going to move the damn clocks instead

  1. Blue moon tonight, the first Halloween blue moon in 76 years:

Not that it’s anything more than a coincidence of the calendar, but sometimes they can be cool. This year on February 29 right before the shutdown, I was at a party where I met two people who had been born on February 29. Just a roll of the dice, but still pretty wild.

So to amp up the coincidences, here is Bobby “Blue” Bland singing Blue Moon:
