Happy Hour [1/7/22]

I need a drink

Happy Canada Day!

In honor of our friends in the Great White North, maybe have a Caesar. I’m not usually a fan of tomato juice, but to be fair, some of these sound pretty good.

Food and Wine made all four of the Letterkenny Caesar Competition recipes and declared the Hicks’ the winner. I think I’d prefer the Hockey Players cocktail with its extra Worchestershire Sauce.

Base: ½ Clamato juice, ½ tomato juice

Booze: 3 ounces vodka

Boosters: Frank’s Red Hot sauce, 10 dashes Worcestershire, shot of dill pickle juice

Garnish: Dill pickle, pickled pepper, pickled egg

Rim: Lime juice, celery salt, Montreal chicken seasoning

Whatever you’re drinking this afternoon, raise your glasses to North America’s best country.

  1. DUDE, WHERE’S MY CARDAMARO
    bold & smoke
Four Roses bourbon, Select appritivo, Cardamaro, Ilegal mezcal, orange bitters

I had two of these at lunch, then had a nice nap.

Happy Canada Day to our better neighbors in the north.

  2. I had a friend as a kid with parents who drank Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey. He used to collect those purple bags and use them to hold all kinds of things — little action figures, dice, cards, all the stuff boys collected.

It was only years later that it clicked — holy cow did his parents drink a lot of whiskey! And of course they did, this was the ’70s. At the time I wished my parents had a lot of those bags to give me, but in retrospect I’m thinking I’m lucky they basically stuck to Gallo.
