Happy Hour [10/7/20]

You don’t have to drink alone.

It has been a roller coaster of a week. I think everyone could use some straight up good news. And what could be better than new Far Side comics?

The Good News Network tipped me off that Gary Larson’s website has a New Stuff section, with uhm, new stuff! Before you get too excited, I don’t think this means Larson is coming out of retirement. But the three new comics, experiments with digital illustration, are better than nothing. Enjoy!

  1. Jesus.  “Bears Eating Cubscouts” got dark in a hurry, but that’s Gary.
I think, if Gary does anything, he’ll probably just keep posting the occasional new comic on his website whenever the spirit hits him.  I can’t imagine him going back to full time drawing again after all this time doing whatever he damned well pleases.
The SCOTUS ruling was my good news for the week.  That, and I pulled the first garlic head from the garden this week.  An early one, but already looks good.  So, this experimental crop may just turn out better than expected.

    • I know, he has a warped sense of humor. I guess that’s why I like him. The SCOTUS decision was back and forth for me. Some analysts were calling it a win for trump, others like Neal Katyal a huge Liss. I read way too many articles about it and got very confused. But I watch Preet Bharara last night and he said there is no way this is a win for trump. I trust his analysis so I feel much better.

  3. This has been a strange week so I am ready for happy hour!  My computer seemed dead at the start of week, today I got it up and running.  We are supposed to drive to Cali again in a week & they are having a spike in Covid in the areas we will be so not sure about that.  Get info my friend’s wife died with no warning, no illness & no explanation.  On the bright side, one of my favorite beers of the year finally made it into my area.  It is a collaboration that changes every year and this years is super amazing!  It is super fun to order too, “Excuse me waitress, may I have a 3 Way?”

      • Thanks, it is crazy sad.  She was a doctor in a very under-served part of Oahu and for her to die out of the blue with no warning is a huge loss for my friend and the whole community.  They renovated a beautiful beach house and have no kids so he is all alone in their dream house.  Give the ones you love a hug, you never know how many more you will have to give/get.

    • The lack of noise is blissful. Sometimes I wish I could travel back in time. But I like modern conveniences too much I doubt I’d last a day with AC, indoor plumbing, and internet.

  4. Ahh. Just poured. No beer available so I have to make do with wine. Eh, I’ll manage. Pretty good week. My teenager found a part-time job, so no more sleeping all day. Lord, teenagers sleep a lot. Like a 120-pound cat. My turtle moves around more.

The SCOTUS rulings against Trump made me happy. Yeah, his secrets are not going to come out before the election, but I’m feeling much more optimistic about him losing, so that didn’t upset me much. Just knowing he’ll face prosecution at some point makes me feel better about the universe.

    • I don’t know that they sleep any more than the rest of us, just different hours. I don’t think my daughter ever went to bed before 3am on weekends and summer when she was a teen. I like the 120 lb cat remark, very funny.
