Happy Hour [11/11/22]

I need a drink

Happy Armistice Day, Veterans Day, or whatever your country calls the commemoration of the cease-fire agreement between Germany and the allied nations of WWI.

Happy Hour, being a post loosely dedicated to spirits, I was curious about the drinking habits of the Great War. And in spite of the tributes to soldiers both living and dead, the poppies handed out and worn, and the warning lest we forget, there doesn’t seem to be very much peace in our world right now.

It’s no wonder some of us require our ration of alcohol. If you want to party like it’s 1918, try mixing up a Sidecar or a French 75.

How are you spending the weekend, Deadsplinters?

  1. spent it working..then handing out candy to singy kids

now mixing leftover chocolate and beer

they dont go together very well

(i’m eating one and drinking the other for clarity….)

may wander into town tomorow for the arrival of sinterklaas….see if we still have blackface here in the backwards north

  2. I just read that the First World War was a big factor in passing Prohibition in the US because  anti-German sentiment led to a major drop in political power among beer supporters.

It does seem kind of odd that they would take away the right to drink when so many soldiers and sailors were returning. They’re usually a huge constituency for drinking, and I think the big boom in liquor and beer sales in the late 40s and 50s was due to some extent because of young men drinking so much in the service.

  3. i broke youtube and get the bestest recs now @loveshaq
