Legend has it that the Old Fashioned, like bourbon itself, began in Kentucky. Although there are numerous variations. As I have adopted the ways of the Bluegrass state, it is now my drink of choice, with my own Deadsplinter spin. In the early days of the pandemic lockdown, our very own @lemmykilmister recommended Rittenhouse Rye, and it has been my go to whiskey ever since. What follows is my simple recipe for the iconic cocktail.
3 oz rye whiskey
3 dashes of orange bitters
1 tsp cherry simple syrup instead of sugar
A slice of candied orange.
Stir together and serve over ice.
I will need several stiff drinks this weekend, my friends. My brother passed away a couple of weeks ago. And I am back in the ‘burgh for another memorial service. I’ll check in with you when I can.
