You don’t have to drink alone.
Has Nessie been sighted again? A photo, taken near Urquhart Castle by Steve Challice, of Southampton, has cryptid hunters excited by the possibility.

The Loch Ness Monster, like its less famous cousins, Ogopogo, and Champ, has been the subject of rumors and investigation since the early 19th century. There have been a number of images recorded, like the well known surgeon’s photo of 1934, which turned out to be a hoax. And sadly, it seems this latest pic is a fake as well. The photo of a 286 lb catfish caught in Italy has been digitally manipulated by a man named Steve Carrington. According to Science Alert Catfish skin patterns are unique, like fingerprints, and this animal was identified as one caught in 2018.
I’m as disappointed as the rest of you. And looking to drown my latest disillusionment I found this drink named for the elusive lake monster.
- 1 oz amaretto
- 1 oz vodka
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz light rum
- 1 oz peach schnapps
- 1 oz spiced rum
- 1 oz gold tequila
- 1 oz Chambord raspberry liqueur
- 1 oz Midori melon liqueur
- 1 oz blue curacao
- 1 oz coconut rum
Mix , serve over ice, and top with Monster energy drink.
It sounds terrible, but I think after a couple of these you’ll believe anything.
I’m having a socially distant beer sharing for happy hour. My favorite part of road trips is collecting beers not available in my area to share with buddies. On Tap today is Glitter Moon (made with tiny unicorns) and some other great Revision Brews.
I’m not a beer drinker myself, but my daughter would love that!
“Wow, that’s terrific unicorn!”
(If the site would let me, I would load a GIF of Lorraine Newman saying, “Wow! That’s terrific bass!” just to tie in neatly with the Nessie photo above. Alas.)

I thought you’d like it.
you thought right 🙂
here have one me daughter sent me
im torn between thinking awwww shes just like me back then
and thinking….oh fuck shes just like me back then
different music style….but im getting a pretty similar vibe from it
LOL, I know that Oh, shit feeling.
I would call that drink “One massive hangover.”
I don’t deal well with sugar based alcohols as they beat my brain into submission. Grain based alcohols for me.
I’ll raise a beer to delusional cryptid hunters everywhere. Based on science (genetic diversity and necessary population size) and the lack of finding massive Nessie sized fish shit everywhere, I’m guessing they’ll be looking for a long time. Much like Samsquanch/Sasquach/Yeti hunters.
But, but, something, something, giant squid!
get a load of america’s covid-19 warriors after the 3rd minute:
U.S. Hits All-Time High in Coronavirus Cases | The Daily Social Distancing Show
first is patty, second is kim, and third and most devastating of them all is becky…
Holeee fuck. Those lunatics are less than three hours away from me. Forget the wine glass. I just filled a tumbler.
Yup, drinking today. This is the last work day for most of the people at my company who accepted the voluntary buyout. A lot of friends headed for the door.
If any of you ever end up running a company, do not do voluntary buyouts. It’s a cowardly way of reducing staff. Oh, yeah, it sounds kind and compassionate, but it’s incredibly stupid. Instead of targeting the layabouts and malingerers, which is what you SHOULD do, you basically lose the people who actually have better places to be, leaving worthless chuds still drawing paychecks.
Yes, I say that in full knowledge that I am, in fact, one of the remaining employees.
But not everyone who stays is a worthless chud. I’m sure you aren’t.
No, not everyone. And I like to think I’m not a worthless chud (jury is still out). And some of the ones who took the buyout are, in fact, worthless chuds. Honestly, it’s the Pareto Rule: 80/20. But my thesis still stands — don’t let people self-select who leaves. Eighty percent of what you’ll lose is good people.
yeah…….i dont think we’ll be seeing american tourists over here for a while…
fwiw tho… my mom is actually a doctor.. and whilst she doesnt have an issue with masks
we did have a chat the last time i visited where she basically said not doing anything about rona might have been the best course of action in the long run…..ethically extremely suspect…but….we have too many old people……it would have solved a few issues for the next gen hoping to have a pension one day..
i…well…i guess she has a point… i mean…if you put ethics aside
(edit) i should probably add that she put it in terms of nature…when a herd gets too big to sustain itself…theres a die off…untill balance is restored….people dont quite follow that rule…we go down kicking and screaming and take everything we can down with us……and thats why theres to many of us)
Well, she might be on to something. It honestly hadn’t occurred to me that allowing the coronavirus to run rampant might be a Republican plot to destroy Social Security. That sure would explain this:
The Latest: Tulsa reports record spike in COVID-19 cases

Someone should make a conspiracy meme.
Awkwardly enough, though, it’s also going to decimate the people that keep consistently voting Republican. Law of unintended consequences, I guess … plus it casts Donald Trump in the role(s) of at least two of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I thought he was here to save us from the AntiChrist? Somebody call that Falwell idiot — I’m sure he’s got some sort of tortured explanation.
lol…oh…i doubt me mum was considering republican issues…as we are in europe for one
over here we just have a pension system everyone pays into…well everyone working
it was just never really intended to cover more than say 10 years of your life after work
a good chunk of people living to be damn near a hundred is a major problem…and as a result the pension age is going up and the pension funds are running out…
not enough younguns to pay for the old uns
…I think Malthus typically gets the blame for that theory that at some point famine, war or pestilence pulls the human race back from death by overpopulation…& we mostly like to think we’re clever enough to avoid it these days…well, except for all the wars…& famines…& the global fucking pandemic
…but the way the whole live-long-enough-to-retire thing is currently configured hasn’t been working out for a while now…although it seems to have gone pretty well for at least some of the generation that didn’t have to fight a world war but still got to pretend climate change wasn’t a thing until it was someone else’s problem…which isn’t exactly the fault of a bunch of people who did all the things they were taught they should…but I’m reliably informed some subsequent generations find…trying?
…on balance I’d take a shift to universal basic income over a pandemic-based cull in terms of a solution to the problem?
…I strongly suspect that there are indeed too many people in the sense that we haven’t got our collective shit together to the point of rendering the current population supportable…much less divvied up the resources intelligently
…but somehow pretty much any argument in which “it sure would be handy if a shitload of people died” is a load-bearing component tends to come across flawed to me
…in the long run entropy wins & some day there’s the whole heat death of the universe thing to look forward to…so if we’re going to bother at all it seems like we might as well try to get better at having more of us staying alive for longer…just maybe make it work a bit better so it doesn’t fuck up literally everything else…because then we’re fucked anyway?
…but somehow pretty much any argument in which “it sure would be handy is a shitload of people died” is a load-bearing component tends to come across flawed to me
really?
i guess we have different takes
a fuck load of people dying means we wont have to change anything…
its a lot harder to cope with a fuckload of people not dying
uhh just to clarify…. im not saying all old people should die…
just that on the scale of easy to hard….. keeping all the oldies aint easy mode
Oh, yeah, I understand where you are and how your pensions work. I wrote articles on that sort of thing for many years. It’s just that I never thought about it in relation to our system, which was also never intended to support anyone through 30+ years of retirement. People didn’t live very long in the 30s when Social Security was launched. And it’s a social safety net, which Republicans are dead-set on dismantling, because it’s supported by taxes. Just like they are dead-set against any sort of universal health care. So it hadn’t occurred to me that they might welcome COVID-19 because it removes a lot of “non-producers” from society. And while rich people aren’t immune, they can afford top-flight health care, which is actually now only available outside the US. Fuck, Cuba has better health care than the US.
The problem with that theory is that nature doesn’t just thin the herd when it gets too big. You also see larger number of birth defects, and weaker animals. My daughter is a wildlife biologist and we had this talk when the virus first started making the rounds and the GOP was all for sacrificing the olds. We’re now seeing reports that survivors may have permanent damage to their lungs, be prone to strokes, even if they’re young when they get it.
I’m all for slowing down the breeding. We do have way too many people.
yeah but…….
thats survivors that got it bad enough to be hospitalized…
i feel a little dirty for playing devils advocate here
It’s okay. We’re just shootin’ the shit. I guess I should have been clearer. My daughter doesn’t believe this is a case of nature thinning the herd since we aren’t seeing a rise in birth defects, low birth weights. etc. She thinks this is us screwing up. But your mom still has a point, there could be some morbid benefits. I just don’t want to be one of them. I want to live long enough to draw SS for a few years at least!
please dont be one of them
live long and prosper…..id leave a gif but i still havent worked out this place yet
anyhoo if your daughter says so im inclined to believe her
what can i say *shrugs*
i’m not much of a humatarian
