Happy Hour [29/10/21]

I need a drink

Frankenstein Friday is observed on the last Friday in October, in honor of the great gothic novel and its author, Mary Shelley. Celebrate by reading the book, listening to the audio version, or watching one of the many film adaptations. Who’s your favorite monster, Deadsplinters? Boris Karloff, Robert DeNiro, or Peter Boyle?

There are a number of cocktails devoted to the poor, lonely creature. Hopeless romantic that I am, I’ll be sipping a Bride Of Frankenstein.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons seedless blackberry jam (strain out seeds if you can’t find seedless. Marionberry, boysenberry or black currant jam would work as well)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla simple syrup** ( see notes – cook time is 5 min to make the syrup)
  • 2 shots (3 ounces) good quality vodka ( I used Ciroc and Ciroc coconut)
  • Champagne, Sparkling wine or Prosecco (4-6 ounces per flute/glass – depends on size of glasses you use)

In a cocktail shaker stir together the jam and vanilla syrup until well mixed. Add ice and then vodka and shake well. Strain the mixture evenly in two champagne flutes. Top with prosecco and serve immediately.

  1. you know….i dont think ive ever seen any of the frankenstein movies completely…

might have once or twice…..but that would have been back when i had baked movie nights…i dont remember a fair few of those nights

i remember brave new world tho…had me in stitches that one (probably not quite the effect they were aiming for…but omg…its fucking hilarious)

    • I may have seen Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein as a kid. I just looked it up and the monster was played by George Strange, and Strange was his actual last name, not a stage name.

The Wikipedia article says he was well known as the Monster in a lot of Frankenstein knockoff movies, and when poor Boris Karloff died, the NY Times accidentally ran Strange’s photo for the obit.

The Abbott and Costello movie also had Bela Lugosi as Dracula and Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolfman. Which reminds me of the old question.

If the Wolfman and Dracula bit each other, what would happen? And what if Dr. Frankenstein revived the Wolfman after being shot with a silver bullet and Dracula after a stake in the heart?

  2. Drink looks delicious but too much work, I think I will stick to a couple margaritas then switch to wine tonight.  I do love Peter Boyle best as Frankenstein.  I do have a good Halloween tale to tell though…
