Happy Hour [5/3/21]

I need a drink.

Let’s raise a glass for our Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20) Deadsplinters. Those born under the water sign are said to be creative, empathetic, and generous. I’ll drink to that.

Pisces horoscope for today

Your physical and mental energies overflow today, Pisces. You may want to tackle every possible project that could bring advancement along whatever lines you want. Artistic endeavors, group activities, and social events are strong possibilities, so get busy! This should also be an exhilarating day when you accomplish a lot. Enjoy yourself thoroughly while doing it. Go for the gold, and have fun!

According to The Domestic Rebel Pisceans love delicate, gentle foods that have minimal processing and can connect them with nature.  She created an elegant cocktail that captures their romantic nature.

Honeyed Pear Whiskey Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1/8 teaspoon absinthe – you can substitute Pernod, anisette, or even anise extract
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1½ ounces whiskey
  • 2 ounces pear juice/nectar
  • Pear slices for serving

Instructions

  • Add the absinthe to your highball glass and gently swirl to coat the bottom and sides of the glass with the liquor. Discard any absinthe remaining.
  • In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the honey, whiskey, and pear juice and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds to 1 minute or until the mixture is combined. Fill your highball glass with ice and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with pear slices.

  1. No star signs or drinks for me today…tho there are a lot of stars out here…(or there were before I blinded myself with the phone)and at least one very talkative owl
    It’s nice… pretty nippy tho

  2. I was born on the cusp and when I was in college asked a friend of mine who was totally into astrology to run a chart on me so I could get a definitive answer regarding my sign.  Not that I actually cared, but people would ask me once in a while and I always hated giving them a shrug in response.  Turns out I’m zero degrees Pisces.  The empathetic and generous thing I can see.  Not so much with the creative.  The struggle is real.

    • I went to the link. What they’re really recommending is a “Boulevardier,” I don’t know why they made up that other name, which is a perfect Jazz Age invention created by a bibulous American expat-around-town in Paris in the 1920s.

I am a Pisces and I got The Martinique, which is an excellent cocktail. I will have to remember this for the next time we have people over.

      Also, I loved this:

Um, maybe not so much in my case. But I do consider myself to be empathetic, generous, and creative. Pisceans are also supposed to be mercurial and go-with-the-flow-ish to the point of aggravating wishy-washiness (the sign is two fish pointed in opposite directions.) I plead guilty on both counts.

        • Pisces are also supposed to be a little clairvoyant. I’m not really, except when it comes to phone calls. I first noticed this many, many years ago when we had a landline with no caller ID. “I’ll get it, it’s my brother X.” After I got off the phone the Better Half said, “What did you need to talk to your brother about?” “Nothing, why? He just called to chat. I haven’t talked to him in weeks.” “How did you know it was him? You didn’t plan this?”

The phone clairvoyance has faded a little bit but it’s still there. Tomorrow I’m going to call a friend of mine. She’s like me, she often doesn’t have her phone on her or doesn’t/can’t answer it. So I’m going to see how the day goes and when the feeling comes over me I’ll give her a call. I’m 95% certain she’ll pick up, because the timing will be right. We both have very free-form Saturdays so quite randomly either of us could be available but I always seem to catch her when the timing is right. I’m very close to this friend, she’s like a sister, so I think there is some bond or something. I don’t really believe in astrology, palm reading, fortune telling, spiritual vibes (have you ever been to Sedona? Oh my God, it’s like something out of a Stephen King novel) but this is one tiny sliver of clairvoyance that is very uncanny.

          • I do think there are things like your phone clairvoyance that are real, we just can’t explain them…yet. I’ve had a few dreams that felt much more like visitations or communications. Unlike any other dreams I’ve ever had. In the final one the visiting friend told me it was the last time she was coming. I haven’t dreamed of her since. It could have been a coincidence, or my subconscious comforting me. Or something we can’t really understand right now.

  3. “This should definitely be a good day for money!” — per the horoscope — I mean if you consider a good day when I spend a lot of money on boring things?

That being said – their “waterbearer” drink is something I would drink the fuck out of

1 1/2 ounce bourbon, 1/2 lemon juice, 2-3 maraschino cherries (muddled), and Dr. Pepper? FUCK YEAH
