Happy Hour [5/3/21]

I need a drink.

Let’s raise a glass for our Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20) Deadsplinters. Those born under the water sign are said to be creative, empathetic, and generous. I’ll drink to that.

Pisces horoscope for today

Your physical and mental energies overflow today, Pisces. You may want to tackle every possible project that could bring advancement along whatever lines you want. Artistic endeavors, group activities, and social events are strong possibilities, so get busy! This should also be an exhilarating day when you accomplish a lot. Enjoy yourself thoroughly while doing it. Go for the gold, and have fun!

According to The Domestic Rebel Pisceans love delicate, gentle foods that have minimal processing and can connect them with nature.  She created an elegant cocktail that captures their romantic nature.

Honeyed Pear Whiskey Cocktail

  • 1/8 teaspoon absinthe – you can substitute Pernod, anisette, or even anise extract
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1½ ounces whiskey
  • 2 ounces pear juice/nectar
  • Pear slices for serving

  • Add the absinthe to your highball glass and gently swirl to coat the bottom and sides of the glass with the liquor. Discard any absinthe remaining.
  • In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the honey, whiskey, and pear juice and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds to 1 minute or until the mixture is combined. Fill your highball glass with ice and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with pear slices.

Horoscopes for your star sign can be found here, more zodiac cocktails at Drizly. Do I believe in astrology? No, do you?

  1. No star signs or drinks for me today…tho there are a lot of stars out here…(or there were before I blinded myself with the phone)and at least one very talkative owl
    It’s nice… pretty nippy tho

    • @farscythe There’s a chill in the air here too. But at least the sun is shining. Stay warm!

      • Will do :)….tbh i’m just out for a night time walkabout at me mums….i’ll be nice and cosey in my old bedroom later listening to the quiet outside

  2. I was born on the cusp and when I was in college asked a friend of mine who was totally into astrology to run a chart on me so I could get a definitive answer regarding my sign.  Not that I actually cared, but people would ask me once in a while and I always hated giving them a shrug in response.  Turns out I’m zero degrees Pisces.  The empathetic and generous thing I can see.  Not so much with the creative.  The struggle is real.

    • I have a Pisces sister that missed out on the generous and empathetic qualities. And she’s creative only in how shallow and grasping she can be.

      • Maybe, for her birthday, give her a coffee saucer for a gift.
“Why did you give me a coffee saucer?”
“Because I knew you’d only appreciate something shallow.”

        • My be forced to see her in April, I’m going to work on a variation of this just to poke at her. Maybe serve her coffee in the saucer with the same explanation. She deserves no gift. She takes whatever she wants, and has no remorse.

          • Sounds just like my brother.  Which is only one of many reasons why I haven’t spoken to him in decades.

            • I haven’t seen her in years. And am perfectly happy with that. But we may both end up at my other sister’s place at the same time. Dammit

          • Sounds a lot liike my sister who is an Aquarius. Only remorse is getting caught.

            • My sister just doubles down when caught. She never admits to being wrong. She’s been that way her entire life.

    • Don’t tell me we share a birthday..

      • @yellowbird Dix you tackle all those projects today? Horoscope says it could lead to advancement. Get busy man!

        • I made a to do list..

  3. 19 2 77

    • My son shares your birthday, too 🙂 he’s an ’03 baby… just turned 18!

  4. 71 eh?  It’s all downhill now… *RIMSHOT*

  5. Your link suggests rye, vermouth, campari, and a twist for we Capricorns…

    • Ooh, that sounds delicious. I need to get some rye.

    • I went to the link. What they’re really recommending is a “Boulevardier,” I don’t know why they made up that other name, which is a perfect Jazz Age invention created by a bibulous American expat-around-town in Paris in the 1920s.
I am a Pisces and I got The Martinique, which is an excellent cocktail. I will have to remember this for the next time we have people over.
      Also, I loved this:
Pisceans love delicate, gentle foods that have minimal processing and can connect them with nature.
Um, maybe not so much in my case. But I do consider myself to be empathetic, generous, and creative. Pisceans are also supposed to be mercurial and go-with-the-flow-ish to the point of aggravating wishy-washiness (the sign is two fish pointed in opposite directions.) I plead guilty on both counts.

      • I must have somehow known we had a lot of Pisces! This should have been a birthday post. Happy one to all of you.

        • Pisces are also supposed to be a little clairvoyant. I’m not really, except when it comes to phone calls. I first noticed this many, many years ago when we had a landline with no caller ID. “I’ll get it, it’s my brother X.” After I got off the phone the Better Half said, “What did you need to talk to your brother about?” “Nothing, why? He just called to chat. I haven’t talked to him in weeks.” “How did you know it was him? You didn’t plan this?”
The phone clairvoyance has faded a little bit but it’s still there. Tomorrow I’m going to call a friend of mine. She’s like me, she often doesn’t have her phone on her or doesn’t/can’t answer it. So I’m going to see how the day goes and when the feeling comes over me I’ll give her a call. I’m 95% certain she’ll pick up, because the timing will be right. We both have very free-form Saturdays so quite randomly either of us could be available but I always seem to catch her when the timing is right. I’m very close to this friend, she’s like a sister, so I think there is some bond or something. I don’t really believe in astrology, palm reading, fortune telling, spiritual vibes (have you ever been to Sedona? Oh my God, it’s like something out of a Stephen King novel) but this is one tiny sliver of clairvoyance that is very uncanny.

          • I do think there are things like your phone clairvoyance that are real, we just can’t explain them…yet. I’ve had a few dreams that felt much more like visitations or communications. Unlike any other dreams I’ve ever had. In the final one the visiting friend told me it was the last time she was coming. I haven’t dreamed of her since. It could have been a coincidence, or my subconscious comforting me. Or something we can’t really understand right now.

  6. Here you go, Pisces.

    • Perfect, lol

  7. I’m a Pisces & still at work, I need a drink now!!!!

    • We’ve got a few Pisces here, Happy Birthday everyone! Have a drink.

      • I’ve now noticed this too! I’m a Pisces, as noted above. When I was in high school all my friends were Pisces. My first boyfriend was a Pisces. Maybe we really are like fish that like to swim around in schools among our own kind.

  8. There are at least three Capricorns…

    • Raises hand.

  9. “This should definitely be a good day for money!” — per the horoscope — I mean if you consider a good day when I spend a lot of money on boring things?

That being said – their “waterbearer” drink is something I would drink the fuck out of

1 1/2 ounce bourbon, 1/2 lemon juice, 2-3 maraschino cherries (muddled), and Dr. Pepper? FUCK YEAH

  10. I’d try it!
