I need a non-alcoholic drink

Is anyone doing Dry January this year? While not swearing off alcohol altogether, I am cutting back in general. On everything I overindulged in during the holiday season. So dryish to steal a line from Miller Brewing. Fortunately, there are more options than ever for nonalcoholic adult beverages. Some of them sound pretty good.

Do you have a favorite mocktail or nonalcoholic beer or wine, Deadsplinters?

  1. nope

i mean..i intend to not drink much…and walk lots…do all that healthy shit

but the moment i give it a name or call it a challenge i am going to find ways to do exactly not that….

generally i dont respond all that well to being told i have to do something….even when its me telling me

  2. Same. Not abstaining, but cutting back. I’ve had several NA beers because of family and friends. I found the Guinness offering decent, and the Athletic Brewing golden ale to be OK.

    • As someone who never took to sodas I like seeing non alcoholic mocktails on the market. Sometimes I want something a little different but not boozy. I’m going to see what if any they carry at my liquor store.

  3. No, although I remember back when I read The Takeout there were always a few edge-lordy people who got really angry about the idea of a dry January. Something about how it lacked a rationale defined to the exacting reasons they required and therefore was some kind of bad thing?

    • theres sposed to be a rationale behind it?

i mean…. beyond coz a month of no booze is good for you? (allegedly…personally i have my doubts….theres a lot of reality out there without the dilligaf juice softening the edges…cant be good for your mental health)

doing it in january is insanity tho… with all the big bills coming in and hurt holiday feefees to smooth over

    • Seems like a weird thing to get upset about but that was Kinja for you. Someone always got their knickers in a twist over something that had nothing to do with them.

  4. I don’t drink much, sometimes I’ll go a few months without having any alcohol at all.

I have enough alcoholics in the immediate family that I try to keep alcohol to a social situation and also, when I get drunk, I like to overeat even more than usual. I have enough issues with my weight, I don’t need to make it easier to eat even more when I’m not hungry.

      • Full disclosure, like everyone else, I definitely drank a lot more during the Trump presidency.

And then I drank A TON once they called the election for Biden. Like I had kept a bottle of champagne that I bought for 2016 for Hillary that I never opened, that got drank the night they called it for Biden.

Then the next day, a friend came over and we slammed another bottle of champagne and went on a bar crawl near my house.

I don’t remember much of that weekend except a profound sense of happiness. I did save the champagne corks to make Christmas ornaments out of though!
