Happy Wednesday! [DOT 30/11/22]

I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. Work is crazy busy, but I want to do all the holiday things! It’s hard to juggle. Hope you guys are having a great week so far!

This is the set up to a bad joke.

  1. Said it before, will say it again: The only problem Republicans have with Trump is that he says the quiet part out loud. They don’t want to rock the boat not because they’re afraid of Mango Unchained specifically but they know full well they need those voters to win anything.

  2. You know what’s truly batshit about that kidnapping story? It’s right here:

Fort Worth police said although the statute of limitations for criminal charges has long expired, they would continue to investigate.

There’s a fucking statute of limitations on kidnapping? How is that even conceivable? “Oh, well, after a few years the family’s gotten over it so there’s no point in sending someone to jail.” Is that the actual “thought” process?

    • Holy shit, Texas does have a statute of limitations on kidnapping. Even for sexual exploitation:

      • aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually assault: time limit is 20 years from victim’s 18th birthday

You know what the statute of limitations on kidnapping is in Florida? There isn’t one. And that’s Florida.

        • I mean, we totally do that in Florida too. Our whole agriculture industry is based on exploiting illegal immigrants. Seriously. It’s built into their fucking budgets. And we have no shortage of religious nutjobs. But no statute of limitations on kidnapping.

But how the fucking hell can you say, hey, this monster STOLE SOMEONE’S CHILD FOR SEXUAL PURPOSES, but y’know, it was 38 years ago so fuck it, we got other things to do.

  3. Seems Sammy Bankless Fried hedged his political bets as he donated “dark” money equally to the GOPers, apparently.

I hope he’s going to do to Citizens United as what he did to Crapto.

    • Billionaires always lie. Always. Some will put on a populist front but when push comes to shove they’re supporting the people who will cut their taxes and eliminate any regulation that has a chance of reining them in. Always.

  4. The Wall Street Journal had a big story on Musk’s tunnel company.

    The article notes

This spring, tech-focused venture-capital firms Sequoia Capital and Vy Capital led a $675 million fundraising round that valued Boring at $5.7 billion. Major real-estate firms including Brookfield, Lennar and Tishman Speyer are among the investors. “Their technology is now past the state-of-the-art, and improving at an exponential rate,” Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire wrote in a post on the firm’s website, announcing the round.

It then goes on to say Musk’s company keeps backing out of projects, has no state of the art tech, and is bleeding employees who are fleeing burnout. The only thing it seems to have is a steady supply of suckers with access to federal dollars and a ton of press that won’t ask simple questions.

    • Tunnel Boring Machiness have been around since the late 70. Any machine the Boring Company has produced has had boring results. Nothing that screams innovation or improvement.

Diamond cutting wheels can only cut so fast (and wear out.) Unless the wheels are made out of whatever makes the unshakeable faith of Elon’s fanboys then Boring is boring.

      • It’s the same as his spaceships. There’s no significant degree of innovation there. He’s using rockets, just like everybody else does. But at least his company actually built rockets. His boring machines are the hardware equivalent of vaporware.
