    • Nope. My former company’s new CEO revoked work from home. They’ll still allow you to work some days “with approval” and nobody new can be hired remotely. Out of 250 people, there are maybe 30 left from my time there. It’s not all WFH — the place became a complete hellhole by all accounts. But a big chunk of the resignations were from people who said, nah, I can find a job that lets me work remote.

This is a place that signed a 10-year lease on two floors of an office building. The only reason they’re screwing over the staff was because the place was largely empty and they still have to pay for it. They trotted out the “we have to change the culture here and you need to be in the building to do that” line. They definitely changed the culture.

  1. There are hints the grand juries in the Trump documents case are getting closer to indictment(s).

Possibly Trump, possibly others as well. Possibly just obstruction, but possibly Espionage Act charges too.

But how soon and how extensive the case will be is still pending. And he’s also facing state and federal charges related to election fraud and 1/6.

But the growing field in the GOP primaries sure seems like the party senses he’s going to have trouble. Although all of this is just a start…

    • …in associated tea-leaves…in the georgia-based slice of proceedings

In a letter […] to the chief judge of the courthouse, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she plans on having 70% of her staff working remotely between July 31 and Aug. 18. Those who will remain in the courthouse at that time include the leadership staff and “all armed investigators,” according to the letter, a copy of which was obtained by NBC News.

…so…he seems to be circling a variety of drains?

    • I’d agree. DeSantis, for sure, is counting on the DOJ taking Trump out of the election, and is hoping he can slide right into the role of MAGA favorite. DeSantis will doubtlessly say that he’ll “pardon” Trump first thing to get more MAGAs. That’s the only way I see that his current election strategy makes any sense. Then I assume he’ll count on gerrymandering and voter suppression to do the rest. I don’t think that’s a winning strategy — Republicans have thrown away the independent, younger, and female votes with their single-minded pursuit of abortion restrictions.

The only real wild card I see is if a health issue sidelines Biden. There’s not a good replacement. Harris can’t win, I’m afraid. I’m not sure who else could get enough votes.

      • There’s no good reason to think indictments make Trump go away any faster, and none of them have any distance from him. They’re so branded as weasels now and can’t walk away from him now when they need to.

        • I wasn’t referring to indictments — it’s going to take a conviction to take Trump out of the running. I don’t think there’s enough time to get that through the court system before the election. Like I said, DeSantis really doesn’t have a winning strategy here.

          • Right, it’s all confused. They’re counting on a triple bank shot where everything lines up just right but only for them and not anyone else. DOJ moves at exactly the speed they need, Trump is predictable enough…. Good luck with that.

      • Harris definitely can’t make it. No Democrat woman can. This country is way to misogynistic and racist. It’s more likely that the first woman president will be a good looking Republican who viciously leans into her white supremacy.

This group is the biggest threat in the next election in my opinion…

      • If this was sports, a GM only gets one bad coach hire before their own neck is on the chopping block.

Zaslav better be sure he knows what he’s doing with all of his micromanaging, or he’s next.

        • The problem is Zaslav is the owner. And even in sports, where there’s (in theory) ways to remove bad ownership, it takes a near act of God to do it. There is almost nothing short of massive criminal dealing that will derail Zaslav from doing what he wants to do.

          • Zaslav is the CEO, but he doesn’t have a big stake of the shares and can get easily dumped by the board and investors if he keeps blowing revenue targets like he has.

He’s been talking a lot about how much time he spends on CNN, when he could have made his public image as being focused on Warner, which is a far bigger piece of the puzzle. Instead he decided to get his greasy fingerprints all over the CNN mess at the same time the entire business is losing tens of billions in value.

  3. If y’all aren’t enjoying the Ontario smoke blanketing your cities right now just know that Doug Ford cut Ontario’s forest firefighting buget by 67% because “our forests aren’t on fire so what are we paying all this money for?”

Now we’re having a hard time containing forest fires that  would have been a lot easier to contain and you know what that means?

    More smoke for you!
