Not Burying The Hatchet

Here’s a nutty story. My wife has an old distant relative who was launching into an ugly divorce, except her husband died before it was final. He was buried according to his will in a plot separate from the one they had bought together in better times, as a symbol of how he wanted to be apart from her forever.

Supposedly she is now insisting that when she dies, she wants to be buried on top of him so she can haunt him forever.

Even if you don’t believe a deceased person would ever know (I don’t believe it) would you ever mete out some form of symbolic justice if it was legal and safe? Do you know of any legendary feuds?

For Instance

In England, people went to extremes after Oliver Cromwell died. King Charles II had Cromwell’s body dug up, beheaded, the body dumped in a pit, and his head stuck on a spike. I’m going to say that’s getting too worked up over a guy who can’t do you any harm.

But in contrast, I just read about how people go to the supposed site of the grave of John Wilkes Booth (he was buried in an unmarked grave) and leave behind Lincoln pennies as a way to give Lincoln the final word. I can definitely endorse that.

Let’s Talks Feuds

Do you know of any juicy feuds among your friends and family? For instance, an old high school couple who had a bad breakup and to this day still won’t talk? Is there any bad blood between your cousins?

Maybe at work your HQ’s accounting department and the regional accounting departments are locked in a battle which means your expense reports are never approved?

Do you follow a sports team where the QB or point guard and coach are at loggerheads? Or maybe you have a special story to share about Joan Fontaine and Bette Davis? I just read that The Rock’s chronic lateness has been making enemies at all levels of Hollywood.

Share Some Dirt

Got some neighbors or coworkers who are in a fight? Have a favorite pro wrestling rivalry where it seems like more than just an act?

Let’s talk about hauntings, feuds, and rivalries, big and small.

anyways they never did so i fucked off

    and ive never been happier

  2. Shit, if both families weren’t feuding then there wouldn’t be any family.

My dad vs my cousin’s wife. She threw a hissy fit over that which I don’t know. From what I know, they’ve never spoken again even after my cousin died.

My dad vs his older brother. He waited over 50 years to settle that one but my uncle was already half way into Alzheimer’s so what’s the point? It seemed stupid to me and I’m like my dad… Holding grudges too long.

My mom vs her oldest brother. He wasn’t good with money and ended up grabbing most of my late grandmother’s estate for himself. Mom was upset for her sisters who needed the cash. When one of his daughters got married, she didn’t even bother to send a gift… That’s cold for a Korean woman.

My parents vs both neighbors. This was the stupidest. They fought over trees, over a barking dog, over the fence line over anything. Everything was a thing. The worst part is my parents were the bad guys for the most part.

Former housemate and I. Fuck him. He knows what he did. I know what I did to him. We barely speak. However I did respect my late friend’s wishes for him to be at his funeral.

Former manager and I. I didn’t appreciate that he tried to submarine me which was successful career wise but not unemployment wise… He didn’t appreciate that I humiliated him in front of his peers several times. I realized (he hasn’t) that he and I are different sides of the same coin. Only difference is I learned not to assume I’m smart at everything and that every idea I have is gold (mostly fools gold.) He is me if I didn’t get righteously ass kicked in university and was taught some humility.

      • My dad wanted to study physics and my uncle went “Nah then get your own tuition. You study engineering.” My dad was furious. He told me he hates when people mess with his life. The irony being dad did the same to me… Sort of.

Even worse, he had to scrounge for tuition anyway. He felt his brother took away his dreams of being a theoretical physicist.

Some 20 years later when my uncle asked my dad for money… It didn’t go well. The family was upset with dad. Dad didn’t care but he never really explained himself as to why he took vengeance on his brother till some 50 years after the fact when it didn’t really matter.
