I know it’s late notice but we ended up switching my dad to hospice care and I don’t know how the week is going to go. Might be a whole lot of nothing and things go until next week, but unsure really.

Congrats on getting a space. Landing a spot in a respite home was what kept me from going as insane as my mom.

Did I ever tell you (GOD, NO, THIS IS TOO MUCH TO BEAR. SOMEONE TELL COUSIN MATTIE TO SHUT UP) that my rehab facility had a nursing home wing? So the rehab floors had these rudimentary gyms and they’d bring over the nursing home residents to get a little exercise. That’s also where the big-screen TV was, played at top volume, and a communal table where the sociable residents could hang out together.
I was told that when I used the gym (I was forced to; I would never go to one voluntarily. Gross.) the Nurse Cratchit running the place preferred that people not wear their hospital gowns and switch into street clothes. So I had Better Half bring me some but I had lost so much weight (seriously. Like 70 pounds) that nothing fit.
So I was in my hospital garb pushing around a wheeled walker and we went to the gym for the first time (my physical therapist and I) and there were quite a few people in there.
“Oh, I see what you mean. I should wear resort casual?”
The physical therapist had no idea what I was talking about. She was probably about 25. It really is for the best that we eventually exit the stage and let the youngers assume our roles.
So far my weekend hasn’t gone worth a shit. The snowblower–which is a replacement for the one I bought two years ago and had broken after a single use–also broke after a single use. I was hoping I could get away from gas powered snow blowers but it’s clear that the electric ones are cheap dog shit.
How much snow was there?
Not even that much. Maybe 8 inches. My neighbor has a gas powered snowblower that I’d used before which handled a 24″ snowfall without even breaking a sweat.
I wonder if it’s the cold that fucks them up. Which would be a huge design oversight.
I’m holding off on buying an EV because I’m worried about the cold zapping the battery. My sister got an EV Subaru and it does not get the milage advertised especially if you turn the heater on (in the winter in rural Quebec). She needed to replace her Rav4 because it was hacked and stolen. When it was found, the computer no longer functioned and it could no longer be driven… Which makes me want to keep my 10yr old Kia forever.
The main problem is these electric snow blowers are made mostly of plastic which doesn’t hold up to any punishment. If I lived in a desert where the snow is light and fluffy it would probably be fine. But my snow is heavy and wet and these machines just can’t handle it.
